The inevitability of the human condition — we're all gonna die someday.
I lost my mother to cancer when I was 12. There are many aspects of Sufjan's life I can't relate to; I've never had a strong sense of faith, and my mother was very present as long as she was alive. But the regret of not knowing her better is something that hits incredibly close to home. I feel guilt for not feeling a strong of a sorrow as I should, for not mourning in the "right" way, for ... read more
This type of quirk chungus music is generally not very appealing to me, but maybe I'm just a killjoy. To be fair the jamba juice therapy line did get a chuckle out of me, along with a good amount of lines on 'When Life Hands You Problems'. Honestly if the rest of the album was as fast-paced and jam-packed with absurd jokes as the opening track then I could see myself giving this a *much* higher score. Had no clue that Madonna had an album that sounds like this. Absolutely entrancing

A collection of very creative and out-there instrumentals, the sound palette used here is super unique. Not all of the choices land for me like these minor vocal chops emulating fairies or something, but they do at least add to the mystical fantasy vibe of the album. Easy standout for me is '暗叫', I don't know why but the melody reminds me of something out of Undertale except instead of chiptune it's much more jazzy and extravagant
