This album has so many genres that you'd think it would be confusing, but it's entirely cohesive, surprisingly. 2hollis is without a doubt one of the most talented artists in the scene currently.
I wrote that original paragraph a few months ago. Since then, I figured out that this album (apparently) tells the story of how 2hollis met his girlfriend, and their relationship until her death (again, this hasn’t been confirmed, so maybe I’m just reaching here). True or not, ... read more
This album is a bit inconsistent, but holy shit it is an insane listen. You've got midwxst going as hard as possible in the first half, and then him accessing a more emotional side in the second. There are also two clear standouts in "WHITE FLAG" and "A.F.H."
Definitely a bittersweet listen. However, I enjoyed this thoroughly. Even the songs that I don't like as much, such as "Brain Damage," still have aspects that make them a good listen.
Other than the first two songs, this is just peak after peak. "SLIP" instantly became one of my favorite rap songs.
This album is exactly what I wanted from Yeat. While 2093's execution wasn't very good, I absolutely loved its theming and production concepts. In LYFESTYLE, Yeat took his classic style that he's great at and combines it with his style from 2093, but only the good parts. That said, this still has quite a lot of same-y and filler songs, which all of Yeat's albums have had, from what I've listened to (2 Alive (Geek Pack), Afterlyfe, 2093 & LYFESTYLE). Obviously, it ... read more
thinkaboutit: Really nice start, the vocal work is the highlight for me, and the off-drops are really nice and emotional in addition to it. Some of the dubstep sound design doesn’t mix great, but it’s still good. Plus the switchup is insane. 8/10
Dawn w/ Flux Pavilion (Feat. meesh): The synth in the drop is really awkward and just sounds bad, but the use of the vocals and overall production is really euphoric and uplifting. And just like thinkaboutit, the switchup is phenomenal. ... read more
Peggy continues to prove how creative he is with his latest record. I'm sure that this album will be looked back on as a classic.
twenty one pilots absolutely saved their legacy after the mess that was Scaled And Icy. This album is absolutely worthy of concluding this incredible era.
While there are still some lackluster songs on this album, such as "Till I Die" and "On the Floor," ian's growth since Valedictorian is incredible, honestly. I love his experimentality on songs like "My Call," and I hope he pursues this sound on his next project.
This album has grown on me a TON. Don Toliver showcases all the corners of his sound on this LP.
Paper Skies is one of the most genuine human beings I've ever seen, and it shows in his music. Wireframe is a perfect showcase of his talent, from the high-energy "Freefalling." to the emotional "Spirit Tell Me." That being said, it's extremely short.
I was pleasantly surprised by this project. 21 Savage is finding ways to differentiate himself.
CHROMAKOPIA is a prime example of Tyler, The Creator doing what he does best: being himself.
I'm not a huge fan of the vocalist, but I enjoy the atmosphere that's created in this project. I wish we had a couple more tracks on here.
This is the hardest my expections have been shattered in a long time. Simulation was a 99 for me, and I expected at least a 90. However, Stealing Fire contains a lot of songs that sounds like they were made by anyone else. Also, Dyatic executes this aesthetic far better in his incredible debut album "The Third Kind," which released in April. That being said, it's still a Virtual Riot album, so I can't say that I dislike it; there are certainly some great songs on here.
Very creative album. Not something I enjoy a whole lot, but it isn't bad at all.
My expectations were extremely high after the masterpiece that is Melt My Eyez See Your Future, and I can't say that KOTMS2 met those expectations. That said, it isn't bad at all, and "ULTRA SHXT" has become one of my favorite songs.
Dom is beginning to prove himself with this project, and I'm looking forward to his future works.
I can't see myself returning to this project, but it was pretty enjoyable, especially the second half.
