#4/256 albums
The most satisfying end to a career I've ever seen. There are absolutely zero misses across this entire thing, and dare I say, nearly every song on this album tops 90% of The Weeknd's other songs. The existential lyricism of this album puts everything in context, and is also very deep and thoughtful, on the contrary to some reviews I've heard. This also has without a doubt the best production on an album by The Weeknd, likely due to Mike Dean's extensive work ... read more
This took a while to grow on me, but holy shit do I love this thing now. Great production, matched with Ken's energetic rapping style. This certainly has some misses, but the highs on this album are common and high-quality: some of the best rage has to offer.
Favorites: Green Room (#1), Jennifer’s Body, Fighting My Demons, Me N My Kup, Succubus, Like This, i need u, loading, overseas
Least favorites: Singapore, It’s Over (#25), Paranoid, Overtime
The Weeknd - After Hours: 95/100 (#18/253 albums)
If I was following The Weeknd’s music as a fan back in this era, I would 100% say that it was worth the 3.5-year wait between Starboy and After Hours. This album has zero misses: nothing is even close to being slightly bad. This album has an energy about it that feels like a tough homecoming (I don’t really know how else to put it), where Abel has gotten his recognition for his talent, but is also struggling with a lot of personal ... read more
I was pleasantly surprised to wake up to a new album by acloudyskye this morning, less than a year after the album that solidified me as a true fan: “There Must Be Something Here.” Now, we have the second LP from Skye after he made the transition to an alt-rock sound, and I had pretty high expectations. While “This Won’t Be The Last Time” isn’t as good as the prior release for me, it still proves that Skye has chosen the right genre to pursue. However, this ... read more
My Style is easily my personal favorite smokedope song to this day. There are still some songs, especially in the first half, that fall pretty flat, but the production on this entire album is top-notch.
#60/241 album, #34/141 rap album
Never did I think I would enjoy an album by someone named smokedope2016. Let alone this much. But, here we are. This is an awesome modern interpretation of cloud rap, merging production styles of Clams Casino and F1lthy (or just rage producers in general). I can’t help but notice that he sounds a bit like Nettspend, who I named my least favorite rapper of all time earlier today, but not only does his sound feel more personally refined, but he also never ... read more
This compilation has quite a cohesive sound, but the quality is noticeably worse than Volume 2 of the series.
This compilation has some incredibly high highs, specifically False, but several songs in the middle of it unfortunately fall quite flat, such as Hello.
modus sacrifices enjoyability for a cinematic atmosphere on this EP, which left me a bit disappointed. That said, the aforementioned atmosphere is unparalleled on Rushdown.
The main way I judged this compilation was to see if the artists had improved on the original songs. And, that was true for the overwhelming majority of tracks. There were also some interesting interpretations of the original songs, which was fun to hear. We need this back on streaming.
It’s hard to enjoy a remix album when most of the originals are clearly better than the remixes. That being said, this was still a somewhat enjoyable album.
I really like the digital sound this EP possesses. When Elemn is the producer in question, you know it's gonna go hard.
I need more of this from sxth. The sound design present in this EP is incredible. Luminescent, specifically, is incredible.
Glossy smooth. I don't know what else I could call this compilation.
The epitome of Rushdown's incredible 2022. Every artist gave it 110% for this compilation, and it shows.
