so far this is the best Bob Dylan album I've heard HOWEVER I cannot say it is mt favorite. the songwriting is great (obviously) and I appreciate the crazier sounds but there was something missing in my opinion
I think this album suffers the same issue as Sabrina Carpenter's Man's Best Friend: they are good albums but overshadowed by their predecessor. From the Pyre sounds, most of the times, as an add-on to Prelude to Ecstasy but lacking (naturally) its surprise factor. on the other hand, the band seems to have move slightly away from the David Bowie influence (all over their debut) and lean more into an ABBA-meets-Elton John sort of sound in much of the songs
as per usual with Jessie J, there is soooo much potential but then the execution falls through. don't get me wrong: Jessie J is an amazing singer and she CAN write a hit song. the issue or one of the issues with this record is the lack of cohesion. what is she trying to achieve: is it a lo-fi neo-soul album or is it a (unachievable) resurrection of the 2010's Brit-pop?
I strongly believe she should have sticked with the energy of the three first tracks (FEEL IT ON ME is really good!) ... read more
I wish the entire sounded more like the final couple of minutes
the lyrics are amazing. the production is good. the instrumentals are just fine.
very cool project! interesting blend between house (it's its best part) and r&b
i hate to compare it to EUSEXUA aka one of the best albums of the year but it's inevitable! Afterglow is the continuation of that world, even though it is different enough to stand on its own. personally I don't think this one goes as hard as its predecessor but it's still pretty good. the track-run that goes from HARD to Sushi is one of the best of the year
even though it is very ungrateful to be the follow-up to Blue, this album manages to be itself! yes, there are moments that kinda sound like Blue; however, overall, it is its own moment with very interesting aspects that preview what was to come next in her Joni's career
Joni is an outstanding songwriter as we all know but there are albums in her discography that she shows us that she is also an incredible musician. Hejira is one of them. you can listen to this album in any situation, meaning, it can just be playing in the background as you do your stuff or you can seat down and take in every word because every word is meaningful. btw one day I'll have a daughter called Amelia
this is a moment of metamorphosis or at least its beginning! he said goodbye to politics and decided to have fun. I respected and I think one of my fav bob Dylan songs is in here (To Ramona)
I love how political — and angry — this album is! plus it truly showcases his storytelling abilities
listening to this album is like stepping into the past, sneaking into a studio session, witnessing stars being born
this album is what my younger self thought the future of the Disney girls would sound like. what does that mean? well that the album is a bit predictable and safe; however, that doesn't mean it's bad… actually I think it's FINE! I love how she's telling the story from this new more carefree perspective and having some. plus it was really clever to make it 30 minutes long. straight to the point!
