I don't have the foggiest idea what I just listened to. Wasn't horrible though. I think too much swearing, even for rap, but I don't know.
Edit: As bad as some of the tracks are, Sugar on my Tongue and Ring Ring Ring are undeniable bangers. When he doesn’t sound like an edgy white 14 year old with a ski mask talking about how he‘s from the „hood“, it’s time listening well spent.
This remix EP actually hits quite hard for how bad these can be sometimes.
---Individual rankings---
Rick Rubin Reboot - 41/100 - Removed everything interesting about the song. Thankfully, it's only one of two bad ones.
Vicetone Remix - 74/100 - Simple & good EDM remix, but leaves a little left to be desired.
Angger Dimas Remix - 85/100 - I don't even know what genre this one is, but the beat hits really hard and it's a very polished track.
Twoloud Remix - 83/100 - Really ... read more
There are some pretty creative remixes here, but the majority of them are really mid.
Honestly, not what I expected. A lot of good songs that serve their purpose, and there are few filler tracks. Satisfying album.
I really, really, REALLY wish there were less filler tracks, but the albums highlights make it quite worthwhile.
Expected this to be absolutely intolerable, wound up being tolerable. Nothing special, so I can't give it any higher than this, but it's definitely a step down from self titled.
Blah blah blah, something about how Christian rock sucks, yada yada yada, Skillet's overrated.
In all seriousness, every bad aspect about the band comes together in every album to make... something good? I mean, fusing obnoxious, ear-raping arena rock, center-right Christianity, and random orchestral instruments should not work, yet, in classic Skillet fashion, they make it hit and hit well.
I bet this album would be a lot more interesting if there weren't people who could hit every single aspect of this album, but better. Now, is it terrible? Not particularly, no. Are there certain things that Alex G did well in this album? Yes. Did it all come together to form one of the most underwhelming, boring, mid albums that've been released this year? Regretfully.
Now, I have three friends who like this guy. One is more of a casual listener, one is like a diehard fan, and 40 ... read more
I hate the thought of liking it but honestly I really get the idea. Cool genre blend ig, but the verse sucks. Chorus, though, on the other hand, absolutely slaps. Slowed & reverbed one is better.
Listening this start to end, I will update this when I’m close to finishing. Like always, there’s one banger (Idiosyncracy) and the rest is just alright.
Edit 1: The Ringmaster is a banger too, so make it two insane tracks sofar.
Edit 2: Finished the album- holy shit.
Edit 3: Retrospectively, this is a masterpiece.
The whole album feels a little too repetitive, but thank goodness Here to Stay exists. That song single-handedly upholds the album‘s rating. All of the other songs still are pretty good though, like Bottled Up Inside and Thoughtless.
