A standout within its genre for sure. There's an electricity and effortless glam that this record has that's hard to pull off. You can tell that this was made by artists at the top of their game, almost every song is dripping with expertise and confidence. All that to say, I found this record to be a bit straightforward in its presentation. There aren't a lot of surprises or twists and turns, and while for some that may be a sweet spot, but personally I didn't resonate with ... read more
Hearing Man I Need all over social media really soured me to Olivia Dean, but you know what....this record rips. Vocals are great, song variety is nice, the overall composition of the tracks themselves is well constructed. Great record.
The vocals on some of the tracks sounded way too clean, and stylistically this is a bit all over the place for my tastes.
Some cool concepts, neat collabs, but songs all felt a bit thin and flat.
Some great jams on here, albeit not every track struck a chord with me, even still this is am immaculately produced record with some fun glittery and psychedelic tunes, right up there with some of the best tracks Lennox has made thus far. There wasn't much that surprised me on this record, then again consistency of sound is impressive in its own right. Down to its core this is a panda bear record, for better or for worse perhaps.
I didn't find these arrangements to be as compelling as Estrada's previous record, although her vocals are as beautiful as ever. Still a delightful listen either way.
Even if it doesn't punch as hard as some of her previous works, namely her debut, this is still a beautiful collection of songs.
Sludgy shoegaze, i'm here for it! Musically it's incredible, loving the soundscapes here. I didn't totally resonate with it lyrically and stylistically, but overall this was a great record.
While not every track feels electric, the ones that do are enough to elevate this record to something great. The features are for the most part exceptional, the beats are all fresh and fun, lyrically it's also very dense too. We're almost 10 years out from AE and Danny Brown is still just as sharp as ever. You love to see it.
Fantastic mix of songs that are loud and fun, dare I say even a bit cunty. While the record doesn't do a whole lot to distance itself from its contemporaries, it's certainly a romp and a well worth listen.
No because like honestly what are we doing. What are we doing!? The only credit I can give this record is that the beats are at least somewhat varied from track to track. There's some variety here, and I can respect that. But even as a joke this album is lyrically devoid of any substance, the vocals are obnoxious, and I don't say this often but I genuinely wish I could get back the 25 minutes it took me to get through this hot mess.
This is definitely a talented group of musicians. Outside of their technical prowess, the songs themselves feel like they're lacking that final piece to the puzzle that would just make everything fit together. There's a lot of sections on this record that just feel really long and drawn out, but don't seem to go anyway. Maybe it's experimental and I'm just missing the point, but personally it felt a bit like aimless wandering.
At times, this album was kind of fun. There's a few tracks on here that were okay. But mostly, I found this album to be a really tough listen. The melodies are just so pop heavy it hurts, and there's like no flavor on most of these tracks. Just straight forward pop punk that doesn't really wow or surprise in any way. Homesick was lush and layered and in some ways took a few risks. This is overdone, stale, and dare I say.....a bit cringe.
If you're a true fan, I'm sure this album was fine, given that there was a little something for everyone here with all the solo tracks. That being said, an album full of solo tracks was an odd idea....beyond that the songs themselves were pretty hit or miss, but mostly misses. The production was bad, the mixing was bad, the songs themselves were just kind of dry and bland. Overall, not really feeling this one.
This made me feel nothing, and outside of that it just didn't sound good. The songs themselves were incredibly one-dimensional, and predictable, and bland. There's little to no charm on this record, and while the songs themselves are fun at times, they pale in comparison to Parker's older works and it's not even close.
Gorgeous record, and while it didn't resonate with me as much as their debut, it was still a very enjoyable listen. I thought that some of the more atmospheric sections could have used a bit more room to breathe, but overall still very lovely.
