Damn, he wasn't kidding about it only being occasionally disco, because there was like what....two maybe three disco tracks on this album, but the rest was just super forgettable and bland.
It's like the same song just over and over and over again with a few good tracks here and there, but there's no reason this needed to be 21 songs long. This could have been a 10 track LP at best and even then I don't think what's here is really worth getting excited about. Oh well, at least we still have Slow Dancing In The Dark.
Just because you give your album a blurry, neutral toned cover doesn't mean it's going to just automatically come across as down to earth and raw. This album is chill and laid back on purpose, which could have worked, but the beats are all so sparse and bland there isn't really anything for me to really say about this one. If you're going to make a stripped back jazz rap album, the jazz part has to be good, because that's really the star of the show at that point. ... read more
Unfortunately I found this to be a step down from how explosive and electric Negative Spaces felt. There's some great moments sprinkled through this album, but on the whole it feels a bite tame strangely enough. A lot of what's presented here is pretty straight forward djent, but outside of it fitting squarely within that genre as far as style goes, there wasn't much else that excited me about this project. Negative Spaces felt varied and lush with a lot of interesting elements ... read more
I WANT SEX, MONEY, BITCHES, AND THE STICKIEST WEED!
Is this Slayyter's final form? Becuz holy shit this is a distillation of everything that's ever worked on her previous two LP's and then some. Just about everytyng is dialed up in the best ways possible. It's effortlessly confident in everything it wants to be. I love how tracks 8-9 serve as almost an extended interlude to what then becomes an explosive last half that while doesn't quite reach the same highs as the ... read more
Charlie Puth is one of those artists that is clearly incredibly talented, there's no denying that this is a very well made and put together album as far as the technical aspects are concerned. That still doesn't save this album from sounding super forumulaic with almost no surprises or twists and turns to break up the monotony. It's one thing to be technically and vocally gifted, it's another thing to make music that's interesting. And i just did not find this album as ... read more
A beautiful collection of tracks. Vocally it felt a bit flat though. On Lush, Jordan showcased a wide range of vocals that just aren't as prominent on this latest release, and I can't help but miss them a bit.
It's not that often a band manages to maintain a level of quality years after their debut, but goddamnit Converge have managed to make a record that still has much of the flair of their previous albums and then some. What a triumph this album is. It fills the void left by You Won't Get What You Want with noisy chaotic vocals and hard soul crushing riffs. Solid listen, front to back!
While still an incredibly enjoyable listen and masterfully crafted in its own rights, Underscores most record record lacks the secret sauce that made their previous album so electric. I can appreciate the laid back vibes that this album has to offer, but definitely missed some of the batshit crazy production on their previous records.
While this certainly isn't an awful record by any means with a few catchy beats and decent hooks, as far as a BTS album goes its bad. The producers and writers they worked with often failed to capture the spirit of what made the group so well loved in the first place. There's hardly anything on this album that's kpop, aside from the Korean lyrics and a few melodies here and there. It's great that they're working with other producers I guess...? But where is the theme of ... read more
While it doesn't upstage TFS, this is certainly a gorgeous and upbeat record from JID with some fantastic features, catchy songwriting, and great beats.
Continuing to prioritize quality over quantity, at just 11 tracks long McKinley Dixon has done it again with an exceptionally spectacular record. It's fun, vibrant, poetic, thoughtful, well produced, just all around an absolute blast. The features are great, the tracks themselves are all....uhhh....alive. Jazz rap is alive and well and McKinley Dixon is one of the best to do it at the moment.
Please don't hate me, but while this record is absolutely gorgeous in so many ways, it does at times feel like it's ambition and grandiosity gets the better of it. It's big and bold and grand and when it works it works wonderfully, but the in-betweens that connect it all often felt a bit underwhelming compared to the rest.
This is my first CMAT album but holy shit does it have me excited to check out her other works. This is a fantastic pop country record with some really catchy tunes, great lyrics, short and sweet runtime that feels well thought out. Fantastic record.
Okay, genuinly not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Dijon's tracks were especially highlights. If this were just a collab between Justin and Dijon this would be great, unfortunately the rest of the record is very hit or miss, mostly a miss.
There's something about this blend of genres that just isn't doing it for me. Clearly, Quadeca is a talented producer, and from like a technical standpoint there's a lot of cool music on here. Just about every track feels like its shooting for the moon with these big bold song structures that are made to feel massive, but it all feels like too much of a good thing. It's so dense and so layered and so complex that it just feels a bit murky. I can see how this resonates with ... read more
It's soft, sweet, delicate, airy, and all around delightful. Even if not every moment feels as brilliant as the next, there's a subtle beauty to this record that is very nice. Fantastic solo debut from Maria Zardoya. Great stuff.
