Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
80

Loved it so much I ran it back as soon as it was over. Such a fun, bubbly collection of tracks with some real sincerity and vulnerability baked into them as well. Sing Good is actually such a cute track that actually made me tear up a bit. So yeah big props to Ninajirachi and the rest of the team that put this record together. Big props.

Ed Sheeran - Play

What a bizarre experience. Almost all of Ed's efforts at sincerity are undermined by the fact that this record has no coherent structure to it at all. It's such a mash of sounds and ideas that almost all seem to clash with one another in the worst way. That constant whiplash was not enjoyable in the slightest. He's taken sounds from across the musical spectrum and turned them into these bizarre, trite, glittery anthems that serve to just totally trivialize anything he's ... read more

JADE - THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY!

An absolutely dynamite debut from JADE. The opening tracks especially were incredible. The end definitely mellows out a bit, but overall this was a great collection of songs.

At The Gates - Slaughter of the Soul

Rip to Thomas Lindberg. Giving this album a listen in his honor, and I am here to report that it fucks. Riffs are heavy and nasty, and the band worked hard to make this album feel like something uniquely theirs with some nice breaks in-between the intensity.

Frost Children - SISTER

The duo really found their stride with their latest release. While I've found most of their music to be enjoyable, there's a level of energy that this album reaches that is just really satisfying. It's a beautiful blend of all the different sounds and styles the duo has played around with over the years, and just turns all of it up. It's a beautiful homage to a lot of the early-mid 2000's EDM scene too which on a personal level I have a lot of nostalgia for. All around ... read more

Discovery Zone - Remote Control

This is some goooooood shit right here.

V - Layover

Lovely album that has me very excited should V ever decide to put out more solo music.

It's a pretty good collection of tracks, and it definitely seems like artistically De Souza is making a bit of a pivot on this record. I'm not a big fan of this pivot unfortunately, and I much prefer the style of her previous records to this more synthy indie pop vibe she's doing here. I'm happy for her though. This record has some good vibes and positive energy, and I did enjoy a few of the tracks like Heartthrob and Dinner and Precipice.

Folk Bitch Trio - Now Would Be A Good Time
70

I hope that the glowing reviews from the critics don't detract from the fact that while this might not be as exceptional of a record as they're making it out to be, it's still got some charm, good lyrics, well executed vocals and gorgeous harmonies. As a debut album, I think the trio did a pretty good job.

The Velvet Sundown - Dust and Silence

Art is not a means to an end. It's not a product meant to just be sold. It's not transactional. It's an experience, a human experience. It's about exploring the minds and hearts of creative people who take their life experiences, their ups and downs, their heartbreaks and epiphanies, all of that and more, and putting that into a visual or audio experience that often transcends language itself. The way that emotions can be conveyed through song is extraordinary.

Beautifully delicate in all the right ways.

The Beach Boys - Sunflower

I think that this is THE Beach Boys album. It's influence rings out even in modern dream pop, a clear testament to the timeless nature of this sound. The dreamy lofi production of All I Wanna Do is exceptional and might as well be dropped into some of Beach House's earlier work. Needless to say this is a stand out album considering the time at which it was made. The title of "godfather" of dream pop is rightly earned here.

Timbaland - TIMBO PROGRESSION

It's not glaringly obvious, but this is definitely AI generated at least in part if not in whole. It sounds like tracks 1, 2, 3, 5 shared a similar prompt, and tracks 4, 6, 7, 8, 9 shared their own similar prompt. Now that's all just my best guess, but go back and listen for yourself. Even if this isn't AI generated it's still really bland and uninspired. The bulk of this album is just the same beat over and over again, no break downs, no change ups, no fills, nothing here ... read more

Lil Wayne - Tha Carter VI

YES! I love it when I get to listen to something so truly awful. Something so truly abysmal. I get to slap a big fat fucking 0 on the score. Because holy shit this felt like tolerance training for an eternity in hell, where I have to sit and listen to this album play over and over again. How the hell are there 54 writers and 27 producers credited on this thing. What a fantastic waste of time from every individual involved. There is NOTHING here of substance. The lyrics are repetitive, awful and ... read more

Mumford & Sons - RUSHMERE

Every genre has their "nickleback" the group plagued with hate due to a combination of their popularity along with the fact that in general the music they make being pretty lackluster in comparison to other contemporaries within the genre. Is this album terrible? No, not really. I did not find it be very interesting I will say that, but as far as labels like garbage is concerned I wouldn't go that far. I just think that in terms of both form and substance it doesn't reach ... read more

Red Velvet - Perfect Velvet

Golden era K-pop right here.

Little Simz - NO THANK YOU

Revisiting this album after Lotus and I realized I never actually wrote a review. While I don't think this goes as hard as the two records that preceded it, it's still incredible in its own rights. Simz is unstoppable.

Turnstile - NEVER ENOUGH
60

It feels like the band took a lot of what worked on GLOW ON and expanded it, and while sometimes that sounds great and it works really well, most of the time it just kind of drags. I don't think the riffs or the melodies are strong enough to carry the more laid back nature of their sound here. It's really lush and pretty at best, but a bit predictable at worst. Maybe there's someone out there more eloquent than me that can place it, but I just don't feel like the dreamier ... read more

Addison Rae - Addison

It's got some fun glittery beats, with some pretty catchy melodies and nicely written hooks, but outside of what makes this album a fun time, there's not a whole lot that really makes it great or even stand out. I like addison, I hope she does well in the industry. This album excites me for future releases from her. This is a nice debut that was well made and fun to listen through. I don't know how much I'll find myself coming back to the deeper cuts on this thing, but as ... read more

Gridiron - Poetry From Pain

It's pretty good beatdown hardcore. The vocals and the lyrics are a bit corny sometimes, and the riffs are kinda vanilla. I mean they go hard and sound good, but there's nothing all that special to the composition. Pretty standard stuff at this point.
