So boring and lifeless and bland and painfully derivative. It's not poorly made music, just profoundly uninteresting.
Noisy, but also sweet and heartfelt. This was a great listen. Some of the electronic beats felt a bit at odds stylistically with the rest of the record, but overall I enjoyed this album quite a bit.
Rarely does there feel to be any order or form to the chaos, just a bunch of sounds all thrown together haphazardly. Occasionally there were flashes of brilliance, but more often than not this just felt noisy for the sake of being noisy.
While the opening few tracks didn't really grab me, the rest of the album sure did because this is a glittery super fun, synthpop record with some really unique vocals that grew on me as the album progressed
It's got some great moments, even if some of the lyrics are a bit too on the nose for my tastes, Owusu certainly doesn't pull any punches with these bars, and I can respect that. Lyrically, it feels very earnest, even if there's a few places that come across a little corny. Overall, i fuck with the message. Down with the billionaires, and free Gaza, I pray that in our lifetime we see this happen.
I didn't find the songs themselves to be as gripping as some of his previous ... read more
Revisiting this record in the wake of Experimental Rap, and this is just leagues above that album in basically every way. It was such a fresh, creative, bold hip hop album that actually felt experimental. Vegyn and Peggy work so well together, and this record is a beautiful testament to that.
This album wears a lot of its influences on its sleeve, and in the end struggles to land on its own two feet with its own personality. It's well made for sure, but lacks originality in sound. The lyrics are profound and deep, perhaps the best thing of this record, but the songs themselves failed to grab me. They just felt like very generic backdrops to the otherwise heartfelt lyrics.
It's great, but soooo incredibly dense with different ideas, samples, sounds...just a bit all over the place. I feel like this genre of music is very much like listening to someone's ideas for songs just kind of all crammed together. When it works, and the right ideas find each other, it's magic. When it doesn't work, the different sounds and ideas all collide in a way that feels disjointed and formless, like throwing a bunch of stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks. So I ... read more
Huge return to form for Kacey Musgraves on this one. I had a blast with this one. Not every song hits the same way, but there's a lot to love about these tracks. I need more ballads though! Hell On Me was a fantastic closer, and I can't help but feel like this album would have soared had there been a few more tracks like that one.
Uhhhh, for an album titled "experimental rap" this was one of Peggy's least ambitious and least experimental projects thus far. The beats are so generic and bland compared to just about anything he's cooked up previously. On the album Peggy leans heavily into hyperpop and at times almost kind of dubstep influences with these loud and glitchy industrial sounds. It marks a definitive shift for him stylistically, and i can't say that it does him any favors. There just ... read more
Okay, i'm going to give this album a few points because at least the beats slap in their own rights sometimes which is an improvement on a lot of Drake's previous records to this point. But that's where my praise for this album starts and ends. Because holy cornball, these lyrics suuuuuuck. Just so painful to listen to.
Some really beautiful atmospheric d&b. I did find some sections to be a bit sparse, but otherwise this was a very well made record that was a delight to listen through.
No reinventing the wheel here, but that being said this still slaps and for anyone who is a fan of drum and bass this is a must listen for the year, hands down.
I appreciate the production and the talent that went into this album. It felt a little all over the place, with a lot of ideas spilling out over the edges. I feel like some more structure would have helped this album stick the landing, but otherwise some really good stuff!
