why does it cost one thousand dollars
Good song. Makes me feel like AJ Pinkerton could be my dad. Could you Imaging that? AJ Pinkerton... My dad...
Some music exists beyond language. Some music feels like it was always there floating around in some empty space and all it needed was some sort of vessel or some sort of prophet to be released. Some music feels a thousand years old on impact because it is clear that it will last that long. And I think this applies to all of Cameron's work. Not just his solo stuff. He's like the king Midas. Every pen he touches turns to gold somehow.
he's probably been compared to Jeff Mangum a ... read more

This album is my 1666th rating on album of the year dot org. I have nothing significant to say about it because it is very boring and pretty repetitive and drawn out despite not even being forty minutes long. I just thought I should say something about the rating. This album stinks.
I am sitting down and writing this review because even though I don't know him and he really doesn't know me John Darnielle is the probably realest person in my life. He breathes such a life into all these little characters sings about that it's impossible to tell whether a song is a complete invention of his own brain or an actual anecdote from his own tragic existence. William Staniforth Donahue is not a real human being but it feels like he really was in all the same places ... read more

A very small number of you might remember that maybe two years ago I made some music under a name that I don't really care to disclose. It was really bad. And after two rushed projects I just kinda realized that the stuff I was making wasn't really fulfilling at all in the first place. So I stopped trying to make anything for about year.
Then I got kinda sad or at least a lot more passionate and songs would just pop up in my head. I did some soul searching or ... read more
The performances are great as always but there's something surreal and hollow about a mountain goats live with no banter in between songs. It is to my understanding that this was sort of a rehearsal which I guess explains the fact that the tones are noticeably weaker than the crisp and high fidelity sounds on the other volumes. That doesn't excuse the removal of the banter though. That's like half the performance for this band. Even if it still sands as a nice bunch of ... read more
This is one great album. It really speaks to me.
It says: "I love you Jacob."
And I say: "I love you too, Knife Man."
And then we kiss.
I got into Weezer like right after SZNZ wrapped up so this is actually the first time I've gotten to be hype for one their releases. I guess that's paid off at least a little. The track is lined with a rawer energy than what they've been doing in recent years. Crunchy guitars and poppy drums sort of reminiscent of Pinkerton. Still it retains the catchiness of the band's more poppish origins. I was listening to EWBAITE earlier and it really reminds me of a track from that. I ... read more
Well I'm not so sure what he's been up to since he apologized. But this album has come out since. And I can't say that it's terribly awful or anything. Like most Modern Kanye projects it might have benefited from a bit more time and care. But I do think that he's been able to pull himself out of some deep dark sewer. I really hope he stays that way. And I do have faith that like a flower if he gives himself enough consistent water and sunlight he can get better. And I ... read more

captain sure swabbed the poop deck with this one aint that right ye matey
You know I really wish this worked. I really want to like the synthy aesthetic of everything. But there's this issue that has been persistent with the Scary Joke's entire discography: everything is just so samey. Their projects have consistently failed to make one song distinct from the other. It all blends together and it makes the listening experience grating. I would like all the fun little synths and adventure time feel if it wasn't so bland.
Acidgvrl, I love you, but you'll always be a stupid pink girl
I don't think it would be much of a stretch to call Acidgvrl desperate at this point. And I don't think it would be much of a stretch to say maybe she's always been that way. It's only gotten worse since her fifteen minutes of fame some time in 2024. This album is a sequel to the now nearly two year old project You Stupid Pink Girl. And besides the line I paraphrased at the top of this review, it has pretty ... read more
