Idk man, I really wish I was on the Mitski train but it just doesn't do it for me. From my understanding her fanbase really loves her for her lyricism and the music comes across as emotionally poignant. I do love me some lyricism but it's usually useless for me unless the music grips me and she just isn't able to scratch my itch :/

While it's not my personal AOTY, I think it might just be the best album moment of the year. I know we have Rosalia's return cementing her as a musical legend and Geese totally winning but man this album just screams authenticity and the quality with the amount of variety is just unbelievable. I haven't latched onto this project as much as some others but I have absolutely had a moment with a few songs. I remember playing naked in manhattan when it first released at my work all the time. It's impossible to deny the star quality of this debut and the production and songwriting absolutely follow in suit. Idk man, just doesn't really hit for me no matter how much I return to it. Feels like Lorde doing an impression of Lorde to me, meaning it's supposed to be authentic and raw but it just feels performative to me a lot of the time. The sonic direction is something that should appeal to me but I think it was just adapted to Lorde in a way it shouldn't have been.
