SWAG is a more listenable album than its title implies. JB takes many creative risks given his hyper-polished radio pop discography. He opts to use his unmatched ear for melody over dreamier synth-driven tracks like All I Can Take and lofi Mk.gee/Dijon inspired ones like Yukon and Devotion. Despite having some of the most interesting production of his career, SWAG fails to be substantive in any other way. The album falls off significantly after (and arguably with) the Gunna feature. SABLE,fABLE is a standout project from one the most influential discographies of the 21st century. The album consists of two distinct worlds, the first being a familiar folktronica sound featuring Iver's standout songwriting and pensive somber. The latter half shows a new side to Bon Iver, with shimmering art pop and soul tracks that are produced almost to perfection. Aside from Jacob Collier, every feature or collaboration on this albums feels just right. This album does have some ... read more
A Brief Inquiry is a unique and well-fleshed-out art pop album that questions how humans express desire in the hyper-aware modern age via the internet and whether they should at all. The album has diversity without going off track, with odes to various genres done pretty well throughout the entire album, so no track really feels out of place. Strong concept, production, and performances, along with some catchy pop bangers, make for a pretty great album.
The debut album from The 1975 is an ambitious debut with a strong sense of identity. This album brings up feelings of being a teenager and how the most important thing in the world was your crush texting you back, doing things you thought were dangerous to look cool, and being convinced that no one had ever experienced pain like you had. The songs are well produced, solidly written, and feature efficient and tasteful performances from all of the members. There is the issue of oddly placed ... read more
Frailty is a very interesting project that had no issue hooking me in from the beginning. For the first few songs, the lofi emo-inspired vocals and dynamic, glitchy, and unpredictable instrumental breaks made for a very enjoyable listening experience. Unfortunately, the lack of variety dings this score for me a lot. The songs started to blend together and the elements that made the album so strong began to make it predictable. The album still has some of the most captivating hyper pop ... read more
