Music for the club but you’re alone in the dark and the club is in hell. In the best way, of course.
This is an album written and recorded by Dr. Fünke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution
Entirely pleasant classic country. It knows what it is, what it wants to do, and does it well. It’s nothing all that unique, and it’s a sound that doesn’t appeal to everyone, but it’s a great execution of that sound.
If you’ve ever been listening to the Beatles and thought to yourself “wow this is really great, but I wish that instead of brilliant songwriters it was written by your average everyday guy” then this is the album for you.
Such a fun, timeless album. I don’t typically love live albums, but being a live recording adds so much to this record. Sam Cooke is electric, so singularly charismatic that the energy in the room is inescapable even through a recording. Not a single moment of his performance is out of place, not a second falls flat. The songwriting can be simplistic, but his elevation of that simple material only emphasizes his mastery as a performer. Impossible to listen to this and not feel good
Fun with some great moments, but it doesn’t offer anything that later Beatles albums don’t do more successfully
Sparse and pleasantly performed, it makes for an easy listen, but there isn’t anything particularly memorable that would bring me back to this album.
The constant bass solos drag down my enjoyment of this record significantly
Gets a little samey, but his performances and energy are so much fun
Just too impenetrable on first listen to connect with me. Also the mixing on the horns gets unbearably grating by the end of the record.
