I was intimidated by the length, but this was a very nice musical journey. I didn't look at it is a collection of individual songs, but more as a experience of someone going through everyday life decades ago. The way they captured nostalgia through the production is unlike anything I've heard before in an album. I probably won't listen to it again but I'm glad I checked it out.
I've listened to this album a million times at this point, so now I think I can summarize my thoughts on the project as a whole.
This album is rich and refreshing, and its release sort of showed how much people missed Ariana's sound from the pop sphere during her 3-year hiatus. The thing I appreciate most is that this is the first time Ariana did a concept album, and I believe that a lot of people don't realize how much the concept extends past just the title of the album and ... read more
I will always be mad that I never went to the Renaissance World Tour :(
As a black queer person, this album is extremely special to me, and shows just how passionate and intentional Beyonce is when it comes to her craft. I appreciate the authenticity that went into such an incredible body of work, in addition to bringing in black queer icons such as TS Madison and Big Freedia to elevate the album's purpose. This album feels like a journey and a capsule of history, if that makes sense. And ... read more
This is the first album I discovered on AOTY that I would have never found out about if i didn't make an account. This is one of the most atmospheric and moving albums I've ever listened to. The Amazonian instrumentation is unlike anything I've ever heard, and I feel like I was introduced to a completely new world just by sitting back and experiencing what the project had to offer.
I have absolutely no experience with this genre, but one of my friends constantly talks about how good this album is so I decided to try it out, especially because I could maybe connect with the songwriting. For something I would usually never listen to, I enjoyed this. The lyricism is extremely painful yet compelling, and I definitely hit me. I also love the inclusion of a couple more atmospheric tracks to set up the sad world this album puts together. I'm still wouldn't call myself ... read more
I have personal beef with this album.....
This is an album that I feel like I *should* like, I like so many other projects with similar sounds and I feel like it should theoretically be right up my alley, especially since I think that Channel Orange is pretty good. But, I've tried listening to it over 5 times, probably more, and I've never been able to get into it. Barely any of the songs connect in a meaningful way to me. The only song that really connected with me is Solo. I think ... read more
I can't believe I found my diary in the form of a song. I'm right there with you :(
The exact kind of rap that I love. The eclectic production and his flow are both incredible and I can't wait to go back through the album to get a closer listen at the lyrics. The karate metaphors in 'Til Eternity' connected to me personally and I honestly wasn't ever expecting to ever hear something like that from an album. So happy that I discovered Lupe Fiasco through this release.
Positions is my most streamed album of all time. And for a reason. I noticed that many people both in and outside of the fanbase consider this project to be somewhat forgettable, especially because it's between two albums that were much more commercially successful and mainstream in sound (thank u next and eternal sunshine.) This more understated, intimate album showcases some of her best vocal performances, as well as an excellent use of orchestra that I think most people overlook. I was ... read more
Everybody has already said how excellent this album is, but I think I'm one of the few people that prefer this a little bit more than TPAB. While both have amazing storytelling and some of the best rap I've heard in terms of both flow and lyrics, I connect with the production on this album more. It's one of the few projects I'd say feels like a complete cinematic masterpiece through just sound. He ate.
BANKS is one of those artists I've seen mentioned a bunch online but I had no clue what her music sounded like. This album is the dark electropop / RnB that I love and I definitely feel compelled to listen to more of her work. Sometimes I get worried listening to albums from 2014 because of the specific sound that was prevalent in the music industry at the time, but this was a nice listen.
This isn't a bad album, and I love a lot of the lyricism. Still, It didn't grab me as much as Ivory and Apolonio did. I started to lose focus after the first half and the songs started to blend together. Glow was a nice closer though. I'll try listening to the project again soon.
Once upon a time, 15 year old me was watching a NickDominates vid on youtube and I first got introduced to the lyrical mastermind that is Cupcakke.
I have always loved her and think she is painfully underrated, and written off as a meme because of her rauchy lyrics. Just listening to one of several of her songs clearly shows that she is a genius when it comes to double / triple entendres, extremely witty punchlines, and distinct flows that show how capable she is a seasoned rapper.

With Nasty going viral, I'm really happy to see Tinashe's talent and hard work starting to become noticed again. Still, I'm a little sad that the project she dropped last year, BB/ANG3L was kinda overlooked. This album is alternative R&B excellence from front to back, and I believe it being so concise helps all 7 tracks to stand out in their own way. The production on basically every track scratches a musical itch in my brain that few other albums touch, and it showed how ... read more
The one constant throughout all of Raveena's music is that it always makes you feel at peace, and that's definitely still true in her newest album. I personally love her EPs, but I was kind of mixed about her two albums before this one, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Pluto and Lucky didn't initially click for me, but I loved Junebug immediately. This album is extremely cohesive and is a unique and fuzzy take on soul that I really appreciate. Love the use of drums ... read more
Atmospheric and extremely tragic in the most relatable way, one of those albums I'm really happy I ended up listening to.
A refreshing and engaging take on pop. The cheekiness on a lot of the songs brought back good memories of 2010 albums such as Katy Perry's Teenage Dream and MARINA's The Family Jewels, and her vocals are amazing.
This short and sweet collection of R&B and island inspired tracks has been one of my favorite albums of 2023 ever since I first heard it. Destin's vocals work so well with the sexy and chill production seen on most of the tracks, and I always find myself going back to the album to listen to from front-to-back.
