Considering Logic's more recent works, this was like a breath of fresh air, and I'm so happy to hear him back to his best because he can produce some great music. He showcases his ability to flow over a range of beats, and opening the album with Paul Rodriguez really prepares you for the rest of the tracklist. I've seen quite a few people complain about the skits, and intros/outros to the tracks but I feel like it's the same people that are also MF DOOM fans (this is not ... read more
This is a really captivating album. It was my first listen to anything by Porter Robinson and I had sort of regarded him as a hyperpop artist which is a genre I'm not really too interested in. But I'm glad I gave this a chance as I think each track both fitted into the larger vibe of the album while giving a unique listen of their own. There are moments of this project that are surprisingly colourful and fun and really grab your ear.
This felt like just a little palette cleanser from MAVI. These 2 minute songs are becoming somewhat characteristic of him now, but they suit his laid back approach and help to create an experience that you feel like you're a part of - like you're just sat back with some friends and talking.
I think my anticipation of this album got the better of me, and I've actually been left quite underwhelmed. The singles may have been the only highlights of this project (the ones I enjoyed at least) bar one or two tracks. Even now I still find myself going back and listening to older beabadoobee songs instead of tracks from this album. I think it has fallen quite flat due to some flat production. She has never been known for big flashy songs, and that's not what is on this album, but ... read more
The silky smooth production makes it feel like a modern r&b album, though it is only short. It makes for very easy listening and you can lay back and relax while staying captivated by the lyrics and themes Rubii and co talk about
I can never fault the focus on production from jpegmafia, because at the very least it is always interesting. You are rarely left in a moment where you feel as if nothing is happening, but often am I left unsure of what the destination is.
Rating this as an album holistically decreases my score. This is quintessentially Still Woozy and it fits in so well with the music he has made up to this point. But it concerns me about him being potentially one-dimensional? I think throughout this album he doesn't show off many different techniques, instrumentals, or even styles. I would prefer to listen to any of the songs individually compared to the album as a whole.
Weirdly, I think this score is lower than how I actually feel about the album, and the band in the bigger picture. I'm a fan of Haitus Kaiyote and I think they have a really unique sound and I was in high anticipation of this album, I enjoyed the singles, and I DID enjoy the album. But I've listened to it maybe three times over now, and each time I finish I look back on it and it feels....messy? In some regard that's half the point as it's a soul/jazz crossover and it's ... read more
I wish that album had a bit more notoriety, I'm a fan of it!! Orlando Weeks is a small artist but over the last few years has been developing a decent discography and the latest album LOJA is his best work to date. There are songs on this such as Dig and Good To See You that would fit into place in the larger art pop music sphere, there are enough examples of catchy songs with mildly adventurous production that have made for some easy replayable songs. There are times when he takes risks ... read more
Vince Staples is able to showcase his impressively chill vocals and consistent flow on basically every single track on this album. There are a good amount of features on choruses and intros + outros that help to add to the relaxing vibe of the record.
All honesty, I can appreciate that this is an impressive piece on it's production value and artistic vision, and I even think the execution is quite good. I think for me though, it requests A LOT from the listener, there weren't many times it grabbed my attention and demanded it to stay, almost like I had to do the work myself. I think the concept is good, and it's very emotional, but I would've liked a slightly bigger payoff.
I don't believe there's much merit to a lot of the tracks on this. They don't bring anything to the table that I wouldn't expect from ANY single rock/post-rock album. The vocals aren't too impressive, and the production doesn't excite me as the vibe of the album seems to aim for a bit more of a laid back approach. I've highlighted "Hope That I Go First" and "Blind Spot" as songs that I would listen to again in the future. Apart from those ... read more

This is probably my favourite release from TOP. Looking throughout the track list there are a lot of great songs on this album. Some of the best tracks include Overcompensate, Next Semester, Backslide, Paladin Strait. The song Vignette is a bit more pulled back in terms of its production but it shows the ability that TOP have to make a song that doesn't rely on flashy production and booming vocals and still creates a nice atmosphere.
Overall, it's a really nice album ... read more
i know this might be an unpopular opinion, but this really did not do it for me. i was struggling to make it through the album, not on the basis of the sheer content was poor, i could see the goals, but i was left desiring something else from each direction the albums and individual tracks took
"Echo Of My Shadow" blew my little mind. elsewise the norwegian (is that right?) shows off how beautiful a scandinavian voice can be. it's something about those elongated high notes that really grooves my ears
its poppier than some of their previous work felt like. it opens really strongly but peters out with some weak content in the middle
paints a brilliantly mundane picture. this is normal life explained well
some really unique production and vocal performances from willow smith on this project, and i think it comes off. i felt like i was getting something i hadn't heard before when listening to this album. at points it toes the line of weird without crossing over it and flirts with disconnecting the listener but it kept me hooked
