When Converge were writing songs for their ninth studio album, The Dusk in Us, they finished with 18 completed tracks. Of these, only 13 made it onto the album, with guitarist/producer Kurt Ballou saying that they were all partially unhappy with the selection of songs that they compromised to let onto the album. Of these 5, 4 would be released on the Beautiful Ruin EP that came out the next year. The other song, Eve, would be included as a B-side on the single release for I Can Tell You About ... read more

This album starts with an incredibly frantic drum fill that I feel encapsulates the turnout of this release quite well. I don't think anyone expected another Converge album to be released so soon after Love Is Not Enough, especially considering the last mainline Converge album before it came out nearly a decade ago at this point. Never has such a horrific composition of neolithic troglodites banging their hands against instruments made my ears bleed so terribly. Do NOT recommend anyone to listen to this piece of dogshit, especially the final track.
