An Artic Monkeys-esque tonal shift was something I did not expect, but thoroughly enjoyed. Flawless vocals as always.
If I had only one album to take to the gym for the rest of my life it would be this one
If anything, this record is a bit front-loaded, but all of the tracks deliver a sleepy, dreamy vibe that stays coherent throughout, and remains enjoyable.
This is a good deal better than his previous album, a much more lowkey approach to subjects that are more than surface level for a change. A good direction to take.
Originally had this at a 90, but I kept coming back to this album, it feels like a friend. Comforting yet chilling, the range of emotions you feel throughout this album cements it’s place as one of the most poignant folk albums I’ve ever come across
With albums like this, you have to not only judge it on musical quality, but on the ability to make you feel something. If you don’t go into it with an open mind you’ll probably be bored, but if you allow yourself to be immersed in the experience it’s something truly special.
You can tell they were still finding their feet here is a band, but it still works, you really can’t be mad at it. Good stuff.
