An interesting, yet completely unnecessary entry into the Car Seat Headrest discography. Yea, the changes are jarring, the kick drums are turned up a bit too loud, and the no swearing thing is slightly weird (more power to him though). But like the new songs aren't bad! This album kinda rocks and three stars by The Guardian/The Observer feels quite harsh? Martha Tilston has a strong voice that pairs incredibly well with the gentle folk arrangements that accompany it. How Does Your Land Lie? by Nicky Swann is a very "small" album. Very comfortable, cozy, and unambitious (in a good way); like a nice home made pie, or an afternoon walk in the park. With lyrics that tells the stories of her hometown Newton Abbot – ranging from a theatre architect, to horse races, and a swing made of hair – and instrumentals that similarly stick to the very familiar (but deep!) roots of folk music; this was a very pleasant listen!
