While lyrically this album was somewhat a return to form compared to the first Food and Liquor, it doesn't capture the same energy and frequently feels bland. The first Food and Liquor is a perfect 100 to me so it's unfortunate to see the sequel lack the energy the first excelled in.
Lupe Fiasco, one of the most talented rappers ever known for crazy flows lyrics and catchy hooks loses the elements that makes himself great on this project. Its clear this project was made to be commercial but outside of The Show Goes On the songs just feel off. The mixing feels odd and they lack the soul that Lupe provides on his other projects. An unfortunate misstep in Lupe Fiasco's great career.
On my first listen I felt this album was all over the place and frankly a bit of a mess. I've relistened to it several times since then and I've enjoyed it more and more each time. It feels like less of a mess and more of a showcase of Baby Keem's versatility as he shows us he is going to make the art he wants to make even if it's not what's expected of him. A solid collective album. I would have liked to hear a little more Denzel on the album but i realize the tape was more focused on showcasing the collective. Some hits and misses on the album but an overall enjoyable experience.
