Again another artist I missed while young, but unlike Cudi it didn't take me a long time to catch up. After college I really got into Kanye. But as I've learned during my listening period of his albums, I wasn't INTO Kanye. This albums production is absolutely insane, the lyrics have so much depth even for Kanye. From front to back it feels like an experience. EXCEPT ONE TRACK. Monster, I know it's a single, and its a big cultural song for Nicki, but its so boring and every single verse is just ... read more
I missed the ball when this released when I was a kid. Sure there were hip hop nerds I knew into Kanye and Cudi and all those artists, but where I lived it was still G-Funk and Bling Rap till the day everyone died. Day n Nite is probably one of my top 40 songs of all time, it never feels boring and is so varied on ONE track that I was astounded to find out this is consistent across the album. Obviously with a freshman album there are some hiccups, but overall this set the tone for the slowed ... read more
Really fun production and guest verses make this like a good summer movie. However, like most of those movies it's all a blur besides some rare stand outs and I doubt I'd want to revisit again. Loved Carti showing up, Travis never drops the balls with his lyrics and flow really, and absolutely no idea why K-Pop was the fucking single pre released.
Best tracks: Hyaena, Fe!n (cause I like carti)
Worst tracks: K-Pop, Parasail
I've always liked Outkast and definitely grew up hearing some of their singles on the radio, but I never knew until I was older and more into music how important it was that the south had an important and skillful rap group. We all know east coast v west coast beef in the 80s/90s so I won't rehash it here, but just like a third party candidate (except this one matters) Outkast is fresh and different. This album continues the 90s theme of skits and interludes, accompanied by the team yelling ... read more
Beautiful album but nothing jumped out to me as something I'd love to listen to seperate from the album besides "Mythological Beauty". The different use of instruments on each single reminds me so much of Fleetwood Mac, but I may be alone in that comparison. Not folk, not indie, wholy unique and "comfy". Feels like the antithesis of midwest emo, same themes but completely different musically
