One of the best things to come out of the 80s. Plenty of hits to satisfy anyone, along with the progressive and experimental edge that makes new wave amazing.
An incredibly moving and innovative album. Great vocal performance, kills it all the way through the record. All of the musician's performances were amazing and I have zero complaints. The riffs on this record are killer and never get tiring. one of the best if not the best black metal record in existence.
Extremely brutal, but definitely gets repetitive towards the end. This would be amazing live I'm sure, but in headphones or out of speakers at home, it doesn't hit as hard. Best track, by far, is They Are Coming, which gave me goosebumps all the way through, honestly one of the best noise/metal tracks I've heard.
At some parts hypnotizing, at most, disappointing.
Considering this is the collaboration between two of if not the two biggest names in drone, you’d expect this to be great, it doesn’t manage it. There are some shining moments, most notably in the first and second track, but most is ultimately forgettable. Each groups solo work greatly outdoes this record especially when considering records like Boris’ “Flood” or Sunn 0)))’s “Monoliths and ... read more
One of the most brutal records to be released, as it combines some extremely sludgy and heavy guitar riffs, base lines, and drumming with an extremely poignant outlook and collection of lyrics comprising some of the most horrid experiences a human can go through. The record wants you to feel miserable and it absolutely succeeds at that goal. Truly a masterpiece.
I’ve heard this been compared to Fishmans’ 98.12.28 album, and I completely agree. This album is a masterpiece which honestly exceeds any studio work Parannoul has put out. The more messy and alive playing/sound throughout this album turns some tracks that I felt were a little robotic (beautiful world) in the studio version, to some of the most beautiful shoe gaze to be released. While all of the tracks on this are great, the real masterpiece is the 45 minute version of “into ... read more
Frankly, one of the best rock projects of all time. Unwound up to this album had already proven themselves as masters of the post hardcore genre, but god damn this is really the nail in the coffin (in a good way lol).
Filled with beautiful instrumentals and buried vocal Melodies, this album is more calm than any of their other projects but stays just as interesting all of the way through. The shorter more traditional songs such as “look a ghost” and “demons sing love ... read more
Metallica’s peak, not much more can be said for this album that hasn’t been said. Absolutely brutal and beautiful all the way through
It’s bad production and lack of growth from previous albums really put it low in my book for early metallics. Obv way better than anything after the black album, but nothing near the first three
Extremely delightful sound, but way over repetitive. If I’m in the right mood, I can listen to this record and go in to a complete trance all the way through. But, if I’m not in the mood it can bore me to death. Still love it tho
Absolutely heart wrenching while still being one of the oddest releases I’ve heard
I wasn’t completely convinced at first, but this is definitely going to be one of the best hip hop projects of the year. The sloppy mixing 100% adds to the experimental feel of the album. It would be honestly much worse if the mixing was super clean, the vocals being a little buried in parts and the beat taking control add a weird dynamic to the songs. This album feels like a constant battle between these wild morphing beats and Danny and Peggy on the mic. Absolute genius shit, ... read more
