I can get why this has such a high rating, but this really ain’t for me.
For the positives, this album is pretty creative and unique, especially in comparison to the underground. The production here sounds clean and slayr himself flows nice on some of these tracks. The issues I have with it? It sounds like it’s trying to do too much. It came off as really anthemic and that kinda just felt like it was doing too much for its run time. That anthemic feeling got really played out ... read more
Dumbest thing I’ve seen today.
Even if this isn’t AI, it doesn’t take away from the main point. He clones Ken Carson in every single manner possible. Voice, lyrics, flows, aesthetic, etc, and to make the selling point of your music “Oh, they say I’m a Ken Carson clone but I do me” or “Oh, they say I clone but I’m still good though” is so dumb to me. No one has blew up off of me being a clone of someone and maintained that popularity ... read more
My bad, but I truly don’t get the high rating.
J.Cole on here I would say comes with his most unique approach to an album I’ve seen from him along with some of his best flows, but the main thing that drags this down so far is each track being around 4-5 minutes when over half of these songs don’t have the presence for that length. The sound of half these songs doesn’t vary. Along with that, the approach J.Cole takes on them doesn’t change too much either. It feels ... read more
Won’t lie, I’m surprised by how much I enjoyed this.
I know it says 47, but I thought I’d have to tap out at like track 10. The one thing that kept me engaged was that Youngboy’s energy is deadass entertaining as hell. Whether if he actually flowing good or not, the fact he had energy at all gave him a plus for me. When it comes to the rest of this album though, it rely shouldn’t be 30 goddamn tracks. Split this in half and the score would probably be higher. The ... read more
8 years aside, this album isn’t that good to begin with.
For the positives however, this is a pretty unique album with some great ideas. I got the sense that these ideas for the production and flow took time. I don’t know about 8 years time, but valuable time nonetheless. Alongside that, the consistency of genre changing is something I commend Rocky for. For the negatives though, I really just don’t like his rapping style. This isn’t like a one album thing, but ... read more
This album is damn near a 180 from what I’d thought it’d be.
Won’t lie, I listened to this as soon as it came out, but I just didn’t post a review immediately, so these are kinda just my thoughts back then. Still though, they’re really just what I think about him and the project today, so enjoy :)
Bleood is a lot more known now in the underground scene at the time I’m writing this, and I’d say this album played a big role in helping him achieve his ... read more
Who in their right mind would wanna listen to 25 tracks of Gunna?
On this new album, Gunna takes chill to a new, unnecessary max. Every track on her has this low-key type of vibe going for it, but it just ends up being boring. The best way to use this album is just as background music. Gunna himself adds on to this as his vocals, flows, lyrics, and everything else he does on here sounds repetitive, dull, and lifeless. It’s like he’s going through the motions for 25 tracks straight. ... read more
Lmao what.
This doesn’t deserve a long review, so I’ll make this easy. Bad voice, bad lyrics, bad beats, bad flows, bad everything. The reason it isn’t a complete zero is because I was laughing my ass off through like half the album.
Fav tracks: N/A
Least fav tracks: Everything
Can’t lie, couldn’t be more happy with this ep from Xavier.
Xavier on here is really refining the more ambient, melodic, and upbeat sound he commonly does, but also stretched out and varied his sound on here, with uncomfy being a prime example of that. It’s a lot more chilled out, but also includes an echoed out rock sample with some light drums. Overall, the track is great to me cause of the somewhat new sound he tries as well as how well Osama and Xavier do on the track. ... read more
Pleasantly surprised by this I won’t lie.
This new Yeat ep shows Yeat coming with hella energy and hype along with him exploring some kinda new sounds. On more of the first half of this record, I had the impression that this was mainly gonna be some hype ep for the rest of the summer. Yeat on here is energetic, has some weird ass vocals, and overall keeps my attention, though the energy does drop lightly in that half. The more second half sees Yeat trying out some new ideas like on the ... read more
The outro of this album might genuinely be the best song I’ve heard.
This album is a whole whirlwind of emotions and sounds with Quadeca undoubtedly composing some of the best, if not the best, music I’ve heard this year. Everything comes together in such an amazing way that it blows my mind to think that he was making XXL freshmen zoom classes skits a little under half a decade ago. Quadeca himself on here is pretty amazing too, as throughout this record he has great main and ... read more
How can an album be so filler man…
Joyner’s new album ADHD 2 is such a mess and show how far he’s fallen from his past. To start off this project, we get one of the most goofiest skits I’ve probably heard, with Joyner’s parents describing how he’s been rude to them. The therapist then talks privately to Joyner, telling him how great he’s doing. He then gives him a gun and tells him to murder people. Pretty weird skit? Yes. Does the story progress at ... read more
I didn’t expect much this time around, so I wasn’t truly disappointed.
On this new Tyler album, he’s leaning more on the hip-house and west coast style of music. The issue for me though is that it all sounds a bit messy and annoying. While I acknowledge it is hip-house and it will have some repetition within it, the tracks that are more hip-house incorporated sound kinda annoying and drawn out. They kinda feel like throwaways from other Tyler albums as I feel the overall ... read more
WLR starting to become one of the most influential records of the 2020s.
Che on REST IN BASS has a more rage sounding style on here with some Playboi Carti type of vocals. Now, compared to his last record, I wouldn’t choose this, but this is still a pretty good album from him and well worth the wait. His energy on most tracks is what keeps this record engaging throughout the runtime, as he never loses it. Looking deeper into the sound, it truly is unique in the rage sub genre as these ... read more
Probably one of the most complexing albums I’ll hear this year.
As this is my first of hearing Vylet Pony ever, I wasn’t prepared for what I heard next. This album has so much different types of sounds and gentes incorporated into it such as Hyperpop EDM, Pop, some dubstep elements, and probably some others I missed, and on top of that, they’re all fitted together so neatly. Vylet Pony herself not only sounds great but also covers and holds a great story and theme throughout ... read more
Would’ve expected something more, but seems like Travis did this for the bag.
This new JACKBOYS record is so damn filler. It’s like Travis reverted back to his Astroworld type of sound. Along with that the sound is done to death. Most of the beats sound like they were just looped over and over again. Travis himself on here isn’t that great as he has a decent amount of flows that just sound annoying or sound to sameish. Along side that, his voice progressively gets more and ... read more
Expected a bunch more, but maybe I set my bar too high.
This new Clipse record is truly a boring, uninteresting bag to me. The intro had me a bit excited, judging that there was some lyrical depth, great instrumental, and was overall pretty well timed out and cohesive, but that would end up being one of few that could match this criteria. Personally, Push and Malice sound damn near the same on most tracks, so honestly, the critiques I have are just gonna fall on both of them. The flows ... read more
Last thing I wanted for him, but I kinda expected it.
This new Lazer project is pretty disappointing. He goes for some more plugg and dark plugg type sound, but it all just sounds so damn boring. Lazer sounds like he don’t care, and it doesn’t help the beats bring no life nor energy into the song. I like Lazer more when he’s more energetic, and that’s barely shown on here. A light positive I could mention though is that he still got some creative metaphors, other than ... read more
Jesus…this is probably one of the most mixed bags I’ve ever listened to.
Eminem on here sounds a mixture of effort, very lyricism, and good flows, but some tracks later sounds like there’s no effort, terrible lyrics, and trash flows (I know Eminem was heavy on drugs most of this album, but that doesn’t change how bad some of it sounds). For some of the first half, it’s mostly the first result. I thought his storytelling on these tracks were pretty good, but his ... read more
