6ix - Homebody

Definitely some great high points on this project. I loved the track with Travis Stacey, Logic's contribution was cool, ADÉ was great as usual, and we got a cool JV&B track. I've heard better production from 6ix before but the instrumentals here are still nice. Overall, pretty good, not much more I can say about it than that. Maybe 6ix can get some even bigger features on his next album and really bring the heat.

Logic - Pipeline
85

Great single with a great message

Travis Scott - FE!N
60

hook is catchy but good lord I just don't think I've ever heard a Carti verse I liked

Eminem - Killshot
90

takes 4th place in the list of best modern diss tracks behind Euphoria, Meet the Grahams, and the Story of Adidon

Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
90

Christ this was good. I didn't know what to expect sound-wise, and I was surprised in a really positive way. The singing hooks are phenomenal and Lupe's rapping never misses a beat, with some crazy rhyme schemes littered throughout. This is probably tied with Logic's album for my favorite of this year so far.

EDIT - 2/12/2025
IT'S SO FUCKING GOOOOD

6ix - Why Should I
70

Cool first single. Really hyped for this project.

Nas - The Lost Tapes 2
60

Definitely has some interesting tracks. I love Lost Freestyle, and Adult film & War Against Love are cool. Not near the OG Lost Tapes in quality, but OG Lost Tapes was prime Nas. Nas is one of the only artists that can put out a project with scraps and not have it be ass.

Eminem - The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)
48

I've warmed up a bit to the project after the first listen, but I'm still not a huge fan. It's got a refreshing sound to it sonically, but the concept is executed somewhat poorly and the attempts to recapture what was Slim Shady were poor and repetitive in their attempts to be controversial. There are some high points but overall its just another modern mediocre showing out of my formerly favorite artist.

EDIT 1/22/25 -
Well what I thought was a refreshing sound was actually a ... read more

Logic - Aquarius III
60

It's okay. If I take him at his often untrue word that these are Ultra scraps then these did definitely deserve to be scrapped. There were a few fan favorites like Upgrade II and Say Less the fans wanted off this that we didn't get, and instead we got this with 2 tracks that had already been released in his discord and a skit that was on Inglorious Basterd. Still, the music is alright.

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
90

Jesus christ this is so hard. Didn't know what to expect, but I am overjoyed at the sound Kendrick went for here. Just hardcore west coast shit that bangs for all 45 minutes. Not much else to say (better than Damn btw)

LL COOL J - THE FORCE
78

Solid little project by LL so deep into his music career, most of this album ranges from acceptable to great, with the best tracks being Praise Him with Nas, as well as Murdergram Deux with Em. Really interesting production the whole way through, but some of it falls a little flat.

Tyler, The Creator - CHROMAKOPIA
78

Not my favorite work from him. There's a lot of forgettable music here and a lot of the time it seems like it's being sonically different just for the sake of it.

Shakira - Hips Don't Lie
NR

Why she sing like that

Future - MIXTAPE PLUTO
40

Apparently I need Metro production to enjoy this dude, because I hated this. Really boring for the most part and I couldn't really pick out anything that was more than just decent. Too long, and too much future music this year clearly.

Nas - Life is Good
72

This isn't my favorite Nas album. I loved the intro, and expected the album to sound more like that than what it actually did sound like. It's not bad by any means but there's really only 3 or 4 songs off here I truly like. The rest of this album feels like I'm waiting through decent music to get to the parts I think are great like Cherry Wine and Reach Out.

Logic - The Feeling
85

Overlooked classic

Travis Scott - DAYS BEFORE RODEO [Reissue]
75

Well I was impressed at the start, but later on the songs start to dip in quality. He uses autotune here and there poorly and a lot of these tracks should be reduced in length. I really can't stand sloppy toppy. Overall though this is still a good project that does a good job at showing how far Travis has come in skill.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
100

Some of my favorite lines to describe an album too good for a real in-depth review:
When shit hit the fan is you still a fan?
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Critics want to mention that they miss when hip-hop was rappin' - Motherfucker, if you did, then Killer Mike'd be platinum

Falling In Reverse - Popular Monster
0

oh god this is not good

This is literally like what a parody of bad rap and heavy metal would sound like but this dude is serious

62

Not really for me, especially the two bizarre Japanese/Otaku songs. I like Megan's voice and the style she's going for, but I think the production could be better overall and the hooks still need some work. I didn't dislike and I don't think it's bad but it's probably not something I'm going to revisit.

"@asianboyian I was equally excited for this as I was for Ultra 85. If he had dropped U85 and only 30% of the tracklist was new music after promising only one song would have a re-used verse I would have been equally as mad"
On Logic - The Ballad of Rooster Jenkins
"@asianboyian this is basically me rejecting the concept of this release before even getting into the music, the 2022 songs like Metal Gear and Grits are phenomenal but it's legit like he released a posthumous album with the amount of random crap he threw on here. I mean for fucks sake some of the stuff on this album was released on other projects 3 years ago. He put instrumentals on this thing! If he was going to re-release old music on this album I just can't understand why it wasn't tracks like French Dispatch or Universe which were actually made for the project"
On Benagin72's review of Logic - The Ballad of Rooster Jenkins
""opened the vault" dude only 8 tracks are new, 9 are re-used songs we've had for a while from random projects and 3 are just beats This is a bastardization of an album from 4 years ago that was finished and had completely original music that had basically nothing to do with this monstrosity"

"I enjoy the style of rage on WLR the most and that's clearly the style Logic is using, I can't stand the other rage artists and their interpretation of the genre. It's literally just that simple but apparently everyone has to make a mountain out of a one off logic project"

On SZissou's review of Logic - ITS A FEE
"@Hamzah If you don't like it you don't like it. If you think it's bad and doesn't push the envelope that's fine. Implying that he's a bad person or is disrespecting the genre by making rage is brain dead. "a genre of music you were never included in" What are we fucking gatekeeping genres now? Artists have to stick to one sound and never try branching out? Funny how nobody had an issue with Logic making traditional trap but as soon as it's rage everyone throws a tantrum. I wouldn't gaf if Carti made boombap so why do you gaf if Logic makes rage"
On Joshhhh's review of Logic - EVERYONES DEAD ALREADY
"@BatkoRakdos If Logic gave a shit about selling records he wouldn't have left Def Jam and just a week or two ago left BMG who distributed all his music physically. Now to sell physical copies which are what actually drive music sales these days he has to charge exorbitant amounts because he doesn't have a distributor to to it for him. Trust me, the multi-millionaire doesn't gaf about selling records anymore"

"@AmpharosNewMain Also if you have ears it's not hard to tell this album is a completely different style of rage than SideQuest is. I can't stand Ken Carson or Destroy Lonely due to the sheer boredom I feel listening to their mumbling unenthusiastic delivery and long ass projects. It really shouldn't be surprising that a Logic fan enjoys a high energy more WLR inspired Logic rage track than this"

"@ncallahan When he was introduced to Carti for the first time he had nothing but praise for the music, it's clear he vibes with rage as a subgenre and just wanted to take a stab at doing it his way. He went independent in the first place because he has more than enough money and just wants to make music for fun! He literally never talks shit about other artists! I guarantee you he isn't getting bag from anything he's dropped in the last 3 years, since he got off of def jam his streams and sales have tanked because he doesn't have a label promoting him anymore, he even just dropped BMG too https://x.com/FittsBryce/status/1653577768825946112"
On MegaMane's review of Logic - Ultra 85 (2017)
"Ultra 2017 was originally supposed to release later in 2019 after having been delayed and changed, but due to the overwhelmingly negative reception Supermarket got, Ultra's indie version got completely scrapped and he rushed out Confessions of a Dangerous Mind instead to placate fans with a rap album. Of course that album being rushed meant it also got overwhelmingly negative reactions."
