Let me start off by saying that I am not much of a writer or a critic, and I don't even have a lot of experience with this genre. I just had to write about this though. Throughout my time listening to this, I experienced a feeling that I hadn't felt in such a long time. At least if I remember it correctly. It was like feeling uncertain hope and mixed with melancholy and fear. Uncertainty is probably what comes to mind the most. The haunting and spacious vocal sections mixed with ... read more
I really tried to listen to it. I gave it a fair chance but man.... I don't get it. Honestly sucks and sounds like pretentious theater. Maybe I'm in the wrong price bracket for this.
Really love the alt rock aspects of this. Has a lot of glitch pop layerings throughout the album and is a bit edgy both sonically and lyrically, but damn it I love it. Julia's vocals fit this vibe so well though. Defiantly made me a fan. I read another review that said they just needed brakence to be female and I couldn't agree more.
I think I like this? This album is chaotic with some standout moments like the second half of Taxes. If only the vocals were different because listening to that for 45 minutes is a bit much.
Edit: After seeing their tiny desk performance, I've grown to like this a lot more. Still think it's overrated but it is absolutely not as bad as I previously thought it was.
Reminds me of something my mom would play in the car when I was younger. The allbum is good but kinda loses me in the second half. Very safe album unless you're a puritan in which case the horniness would be extreme for you.
Very nostalgic album for me. Very comforting and feels like wrapping myself up in a warm blanket.
Feel good music. As a huge coldplay fan, this isn't my favorite album from them, but it makes me happy to listen to.
Some catchy tunes in the first half of album but fails to keep up that momentum in the second half. High school me would've loved this and given it a much higher rating. It can be a bit cheesy, but it seems I can't let that younger part of me go, because I like it.
It slaps. The synthpop aspects of this are great. Catchy as hell too. Probably one of his most polished and consistent albums for sure. It's like drinking a cold ass smoothie on a cold night.
Honestly wasn't feeling this at first but Suffocate really hooked me and then it clicked for me. This album hits hard as hell. This is raw anger in an album.
Beautifully crafted. This album manages to hold your hand and take you on a small journey through it's soundscapes. It's a bit hard to describe, but it's what I think my mind sound like. It's noise that my brain likes and just speaks to me.
Super fun listen. One of my favorite electronic albums of the past year for sure. If you grew up listening to a lot of electronic music through youtube recommendations or even video games, then you might like this. The album name, cover, and tracks really fit the theme. There's been a lot of albums and artists trying to go for the Y2k, internet, electronic style and it kinda ends up sounding generic or superficial because of how obviously its made for clicks. This album doesn't sound ... read more
Great album. J-pop influences mixed with heavy riffs and melodies. It strikes a good balance between having light riffs and progressions and switching into heavier stuff more typical to this genre. Uplifting and heartfelt lyrics here as well. There's something nice about this contrast here that I wouldn't typically expect.
I love pillars so much but not so much the rest of the album. Leans too much into the psychedelic rock sound for my liking.
Jesus Christ not everything needs to be high art. This is a fun album. Has some good tracks for sure and is severely over hated. It's easy to listen to and fun. Nothing crazy or genre defining and that doesn't make it a bad album.
I don't know how to feel about this. While I can appreciate what is being done here, some tracks are just so jarring like the becoming. I get the appeal but I don't think it's for me. A bit overaggressive and rough for my tastes.
Atmospheric dream tracks. Easy to get lost in by putting on a track and letting the album play. It's a pretty album if that makes sense. I don't think it's amazing though. It doesn't have that special sauce to make it a more memorable album for me. Maybe it hasn't grown on me yet. I'll revisit this one and I feel like my rating will improve.
Well as others have said, this album is a bit embarassing. Rivers says some crazy pathetic things that I would personally never reveal if I was him. But that's what makes this album good. It's real, pathetic, and raw. I'm sure everyone has some things that they would never say out loud, so the next best thing is listening to someone else who does. That's what this album does for me.
Favorite tracks: The Good Life, Butterfly
I really want to like this. I like it lyrically and instrumentally, but damn the vocals suck ass. I know vocals are not the point, and instead is more so a medium for the lyrics in this case, but I just can't get past them. It's honestly distracting. Either way this album is overrated. Not horrible, minus the vocals, but not as amazing as it's touted to be.
