I genuinely believe this album would've been a masterpiece if it was only about 10 songs, 34-36 min long, I mean, the first half especially is just so insanely good compared to...eh, whatever is that second half of the album, it's a real case of a album that would've been genius, if this Eazy-E dumby didn't rot the album with cringy, half-hazard skits.
I mean, Respiration and Definition/Re:Definition alone carry this album all the time, but you add 2 still somewhat young and still hungry at the time top tier rappers as Mos Def and Talib Kweli, a small but very elite stack of amazing features, and fantastic main production job by the legend Hi-Tek himself? Well, you get one of my genuinely most famed albums, just pure vibes, top tier conscious jazz rap and boom bap for the soul, bravo! 🔥🔥🔥
Top tier instrumental masterpiece, proof that music doesn't need to have meaning, depth, or even just concept, if the beats and instrumentals is so fucking good as the ones in here are, well, you just need headphones, a cozy bed, and then...there you go, a digital bath for your ears and proof this album is one of the best of all time, even of all eletronic/sampled music out there.
Many won't get why this is one of my all time favorites, but man, the vibe? The song sequencing? The beats? BUCKSHOT SHORTIE'S RAPPING!????
I can't get enough of this textbook, hardcore dungeon boom-jazz bap beauty, it's my up and down favorite album, and a MUST for any rap fanz.
Bible of jazz rap and the best lush-slush conscious rap of all time, no filler, ALL killer from Q-Tip-Phife Dawg & Company!
