Admittedly the first Peggy LP I haven't been in love with on first listen (other than BBC) but every album he's put out since Veteran has only gotten better with time so I'm not writing it off just yet. There are lot of strong tracks but a fair amount of weak ones and as a cohesive experience it leaves something to be desired.

Underwhelming and repetitive production, borrowed ideas, nothing hooks and a flimsy concept make this a slog to get through. A perfect summation of J. Cole is the song I Love Her Again, a take on Common's I Used to Love H.E.R. or rather just a remake of it. It could be fun to hear yet another rapper take their stab at doing a version of this song but Kendrick literally just did on his last album. I believe Adrienne Lenker to be the greatest songwriter of at least the decade and I think a trap the great artists can fall into these days is listeners expecting every project to be their magnum opus. That's not how things work, this isn't Dragon New Warm Mountain but it made me cry and feel happier and more alive than I have in months.
