José Mário Branco - Ser solidário
99

This is crazy and I need to write down my thoughts on it.
Keep in mind that this is not exactly a "review", it's an overall reflection on the album based on my experience and personal interpretations. I also don't think everything I'm about to say is "correct" or the artist's conscious intention.

Ser Solidário (Being Supportive) is an album by portuguese folk musician José Mário Branco released in 1982 and it is one of the last ... read more

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

Since I'll be going through the entire King Crimson's discography I decided to relisten to this record which I was sure I had undervalued.

Right off the bat I want to say that 21st Century Schizoid Man, Epitaph and In the Court of the Crimson King are 3 of the best songs ever made and I get very immersed and hyped up each time I listen to them.
I Talk to the Wind is a great song, however I get mixed feelings on its placement on the album. It gets smashed between the ... read more

Foo Fighters - Your Favorite Toy
83

Seems like a back to basics in a way. This time Foo Fighters went for a rawer sound closer to punk and garage rock with some grungy vibes here and there, like on "Windows" and "Asking For A Friend". Not only that, but they've put forward some creative ideas and surprising song structures, making the first half of the album pretty fun and intense. Unfortunately, the tracks following "If You Only Knew" are not quite as good, pretty uninspiring actually, at least ... read more

Grupo de Acção Cultural - Pois Canté!!
82

Here in Portugal, in this day, 25th of April, we are celebrating the 52 anniversary of the Carnation Revolution which ended our 48 years long fascist dictatorship.

This album was made by a group of revolutionary artists who used songs as weapons against the regime and then, 2 years after the 25th of April coup and a month or so after the end of the revolutionary period that followed it, they released "Pois Canté" (hard to translate it to english, but it would be something like ... read more

José Cid - Coisas Suas
47

The first half has some of the most repulsive and disgusting songs I've ever heard coming from Portugal, the second half has some fun tunes, although never at the level Cid used to deliver before. I recommend listening to "Olinda Cigana", "Rendez-Vous", "Sou Um Rochedo na Maré Viva" and "Chamaram-Me Poeta", anything else should be avoided
