I did not find this project to be as bad as everyone made it out to be. Sure it is repetitive as a full album with a huge 25 song track list. However, some songs on an individual level (such as GYBB or No strippers in heaven) are just as good to fit into his best projects seamlessly without a noticeable drop in quality. May be the greatest album in terms of writing that he has ever produced. Instrumentally the texture is consistently the best it has ever been with some of the openings to these tracks being absolutely beautiful (seraphim and sleep, pretty baby especially). The only complaints I have with this album are the same i had with a seasons end and that is the lack of powerful vocals that rarely take centre stage. I do not believe that there is a single album that fits a specific theme as well as ‘Pacific’. Groovy beach vibes and a relaxing atmosphere fill this album making me want to lay down in the sand and listen to the waves. Very good.
Some of the greatest individual songs by Cole. However, I feel as if this album is bloated with mediocrity. I understand that there are two disks but I reckon that you could cut a lot of the blubber and be left with an elite one disk record.
