LIKE WE DO BE LIVING IN A SOCIETYYY OHH MY!!!! BOC are back with more tastefully enigmatic material. This album didn’t fully click with me initially but I’ve reached a point where I love it. I said to myself, these guys have never been a one listen affair, even my favourite records by them have taken time to stamp themselves into my life. And their music is meant to be puzzling, that is part of the fun. By listen 4 or so, I had practically ran out of nitpicks (ie at first I felt a ... read more

I forget how consistent this EP is, I can actually remember the tune to each song and they all carry their own feel and aesthetic separate from one another. Despite this, it still captures the core of this band’s sound and what they would go on to do later down the line. Everything You Do is a Balloon is peak as well - such a moving song.

If you thought that the first two Basement Jaxx albums were in your face and intense…behold this bad boy. I feel like this one took a bit for me to like but it has honestly become one of their best for me!! The ENERGY ON DISPLAY, particularly in the first half of the project, ramps up to an even higher degree than their earlier work, with so much force!! DAMN I’ve never covered a Black Dog album?? Big Warp classic. I enjoy how much more I get out of this with repeat visits that goes beyond me always loving Barbola Work and Psil-Cosyin from my first listen in 2024. I think Psil-Cosyin in particular is genuinely incredible, and has got better and better with time. You can hear the seedlings for Plaid’s early Warp material all over this through Ed and Andy’s contributions, and it carries so much texture and striking melody in ... read more

Nightmares on Wax - Mind Elevation

Probably my favourite Wax album of the three albums I've heard so far. This one really strikes a balance between serene instrumentals and pop/soul tunes that are genuinely excellent in the hooks department. As simple and barebones as a project can be, but in the best way - very strong at setting its mood.
