Haken - Fauna
91

This is the djent they were always capable of but were too scared to execute. Hell man, I love this a lot. Even if everyone I show this to gets a bit spooked by the cover for some reason. Favorite tracks are Beneath the White Rainbow and Elephants Never Forget. I also really love The Last Lullaby, which is included on some copies of the album.

Haken - Virus
87

Speaking of Virus - This one definitely doesn't stand on it's own as much as Vector does, but I'd figure rating them together as one work would be more honest since that's the only way I'd ever listen to them. Messiah Complex is an incredible track, but I don't really understand why it's cut up into the five movements instead of just being one 17-minute experience. I don't feel like any of the parts can stand on its own legs and they definitely were built ... read more

Haken - Vector
85

This is a nice detour from their usual sprawling albums, and of course they didn't stray from dropping a 12 minute venture, that being Veil which is both atmospheric and harsh, accordingly, when it needs to be. Sweet album, but I feel like on its own without Virus it's a bit... underwhelming? Look, Haken is my favorite band and I absolutely fangirl the hell out of the boys, but I would only listen to Vector together with Virus.

Haken - Affinity
97

Oh my God. The Architect.

Haken - The Mountain
95

On top of The Mountain, this album really cannot be moved from the top spot. Incredible, all the way through. Of course Cockroach King is, well, the king, but Falling Back to Earth, Pareidolia and Somebody are all bangers too. Also, this in 2013? Sounds extremely modern to my ears.

Haken - Visions
90

Orchestration is amazing. Story is great too. Definitely still finding their footing in the scene, but inching closer towards the lovable sound they eventually have found. My fav's probably Nocturnal Conspiracy. Sex

Monuments - Phronesis
87

Even if it sounds like it's from 2012-2014, it's still a great album. I like all the tracks, really. All of them have good parts. I like the ending of The Watch for example, with that kick machine gun, and I also like Mirror Image, and I also like Celeste, agh, yeah, this album's fun.

Monuments - In Stasis
87

This was my introduction to Prog Metal and I'm glad it was. The production is great and some of the songs are really fun and incredible, in particular Lavos, Cardinal Red and False Providence. Also can we please appreciate the cover? It's a painting, not a photoshop job. God damn.

Transatlantic - The Whirlwind
85

Being basically one interconnected piece, it was a really pleasant listen. It all blended together for me, but in a good way, and I can't name my favorite part, but if I had to I'd probably say it was The Wind Blew Them All Away because that line made me giggle a bit every time it was mentioned.

Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever
95

It's just a fucking banger, nothing more to say. Suite Charlotte Pike my beloved. And the six-ish minutes into Stranger in Your Soul, that change of pace is to die for

Yes - Fragile
95

Fragile, ironically, is one of the most solid and sturdy albums ever. It's got a constant upbeat vibe all the way through, it's just a damn fun album to listen to. My favs are We Have Heaven, South Side of the Sky and Heart of the Sunrise!

Yes - Tormato
78

Kind of all over the place but I definitely fw it, I'm putting 78 for the release year lol. Favorite track, torn between Arriving UFO and Don't Kill The Whale

Periphery - 2 Song Acoustic Single
60

I love Scarlet. I HATE It's Only Smiles. If it's so acoustic, why did you guys put a blotch of autotune on Spencer's beautiful cleans? Either way, Scarlet Acoustic is really beautiful and is my love song.

Periphery - Clear
80

Super strong writing on this. I like basically all the tracks - The Summer Jam and Pale Aura are my favs though.

Periphery - Icarus
70

Icarus Lives Bulbous remix is just Misha taking the piss and I love it. The "reincarnation" of Jetpacks is very atmospheric and lovely, as are the four original tracks. My favorites are probably all four of the exclusives and Jetpacks 2.0. Reason I don't like this rendition of Icarus Lives that much is because Spencer seemed to have a stroke when he was supposed to say "Gravity is just a law I've wrought" lol

Periphery - Periphery
75

I used to be enamored with this, and especially with Racecar, but the production definitely leaves a bit to be desired. Vocals are the low point here but considering Spencer was only part of the band for 3 months at the time, it's still not as bad as it could've been. Favorites are Jetpacks Was Yes, Ow My Feelings and Racecar

Periphery - Periphery II: This Time It's Personal
85

This one's just gooood, hard not to listen to the whole thing. Not much to say about it, great LP. Favorites are Froggin Bullfish and Mile Zero

Periphery - Periphery IV: HAIL STAN
80

Really good album, but for me it falls short on the cohesiveness a bit. It mostly has an apocalyptic theme but I think that is because it's carried by Reptile and Satellites, and I guess a little bit supported by Crush in that regard. For my favorite tracks I'll definitely pick Follow Your Ghost and Satellites.

Periphery - Juggernaut: Alpha
83

Fantastic, deep storyline and great riffing, I love both Psychosphere and The Scourge.

Periphery - Juggernaut: Omega
85

Fantastic, deep storyline and great riffing all around, not much to say as it speaks for itself. Titular track is my favorite.
