Edward Skeletrix - Body of Work

Sometimes the idea matters more than anything else, and you can overlook a lack of polish because of it. But here, it feels like random ideas are just being thrown at the listener. Of course, across 26 tracks there are a few interesting structures and promising song ideas, but even those don’t seem to pursue any larger goal beyond simply existing.

That wouldn’t necessarily be a problem if the atmosphere, which is clearly meant to be at the core of the entire work, weren’t ... read more

With this latest release from the band, I ran into some of my usual issues with them again - mainly with the vocals and the lyrics - but the instrumentals here actually surpass those on their third album. The guitars sound more dreamy than ever, creating a beautiful, bittersweet atmosphere that really gets under your skin.

The songs are also given a clear sense of character, which is ... read more

With their previous album from 2023, the band probably created my favorite project of theirs to date. Somehow, though, the rollout for this one didn’t grab me at all - still, I was hoping they had managed to somehow keep that momentum going. Unfortunately, the release proved otherwise.

Even if the sound itself isn’t bad, it lacks almost any real substance. It feels thrown together, as if the band simply took elements that usually work and recycled them into songs without adding ... read more

TOMORA - COME CLOSER

Completely unexpected, but this collaborative album has quickly become one of my contenders for AOTY. The entire listening experience just clicks - the tracks build an immersive atmosphere, each one doing so in its own way with distinct elements, and the tracklist feels remarkably consistent. It really got to the point where picking personal highlights came down to small details.

Looking more closely at the songs, the soundscape is rich and carefully crafted thanks to the fantastic production, ... read more
