David Bowie - Station to Station
77

starting off this record, i wasn't crazy about it. never really disliked david bowie but nothing of his except a few tracks never really clicked for me. it did pick up in quality in the second half in my opinion. a good record, just not my taste.

Charles Mingus - The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady
70

not crazy about this it seems too avant garde for my taste. pretty objectively good but i'm just not really into it as much as other people seem to be, don't really have any more to say than that.

Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You
90

just absolutely fantastic. slow emotional heartburn that just punches me right in the chest. so many beautiful soundscapes, crushing lyrics and performances, and killer climaxes. ethel cain continues to prove herself with each release, and to me, this was her greatest example of that. fucking love it man, so many stellar tracks on this.

i listened to this when it came out but never gave a review to but i rly fw this i think it’s not as crazy as sayso says but most of the tracks on here are really enjoyable, not too much to say except i love che so most of what he puts out im gonna love

Jamiroquai - The Return of the Space Cowboy
94

just absolutely spectacularly crafted music. each song offers something different, funky, and just a fucking ride to listen to. i absolutely love that it feels like they used every type of instrument on the planet at least once on this record, it makes it so diverse and addicting to listen to. and also space cowboy is easily one of the greatest songs ever written. this is perfect for my summer music cravings.

Clipse - Let God Sort Em Out
77

not really my cup of tea, the first 4-5 songs were amazing and thought i was in for a classic album but it kind of got less impressive as it went on. far from bad or average, but my high high expectations weren’t met unfortunately.

John Michel - Egotrip
87

an amazing hip hop creation. chaotic with loud samples guitar solos crazy drums and consistent powerful rapping all layered on top of eachother. can feel one dimensional at times but this is a really well homemade and very appealing record that deserves to be praised as one of the best hip hop records of the year.

Ninajirachi - I Love My Computer
87

so fucking good. been tapped into her for a while and this is everything i was hoping from her debut album. her best performances, productionally and vocally, and just such fun synths and nasty basses with catchy vocal lines. love her, love this, what a year for EDM

Yeat - DANGEROUS SUMMER
87

man this is good 😭 a great blend of what i love about yeats old music but re done slightly in what feels like a more intentional and out of the box way. there’s a lot of different cool ideas here, trap, rage, more experimental, and even some cool rnb esque stuff. his vocals r so much more clear and again intentional and some of the bars and delivery on here are just hilarious

Freddie Gibbs - Alfredo 2
84

great samples. great rapping. great features. really enjoyed this, not a whole lot to say, maybe it’s a little one dimensional at times, but overall i thought this was great.

Quadeca - Vanisher, Horizon Scraper
94

this album is ambitious, daring, textured, detailed, and a fucking ride of a listen. this is easily some of quad's best work, combining so many styles at their highest level into this incredible fusion of folk, baroque, post-rock, experimental hip-hop that leaves you floored after every track. the listening experience of this is truly a moment in time, where everything stops and you're sucked into the world-building this album gives you. holy shit man...

The Cure - Disintegration
87

wasn’t expecting to enjoy this as much as i did, seeing as i don’t really love this band because i think the vocals get really whiny sometimes, but there’s a lot of cool tracks here. instrumentation is amazing and tastefully done, and the vocals do come though with some great performances and captivating songwriting. this is pretty nice.

Dance Gavin Dance - Downtown Battle Mountain II
87

really getting into this bad, this is insanely fun and heavy stuff here my god it's damn near addictive i can't get enough. vocals are such high quality on both the clean and unclean, and the band is just ripping it to shreds behind those with the coolest drum and guitar parts. love it

Dance Gavin Dance - Downtown Battle Mountain
90

oh my GOD this is so good scratched an itch i’ve been looking for in music for a while PERFECTLY. everything on here is so contrasting, high energy, and just done insanely tastefully. can’t add much else other than how much i love this lol

TURQUOISEDEATH - Guardian
87

spectacular all the way through. to me, this is the musical equivalent of a dish that blends sweet, salty, sour, spicy all perfectly. and to do that instrumentally is a feat, great great album.

Prince and The Revolution - Purple Rain
77

although far from what i personally would prefer to listen to, i can very much tip my hat to the musical excellence being displayed here, especially on that title track, that’s truly amazing. some of the others just don’t align with what i love, and i think generally the high end on this album is very harsh.

Swans - To Be Kind
40

truly and genuinely one of the least enjoyable experiences i've had listening to an album. the fact that this is in the top 100 is mind boggling.

i thought i was pretentious for liking some of the music i like, but holy shit this is another level. nothing about this is enjoyable, it's shit vocals with pointless guitar drums and bass, irritating song length, and overall lack of anything inticing. not to mention the fact that this fuck ass album is 2 hours long. took me a week to get ... read more

King Crimson - Red
80

was feeling iffy about this at first but my god that outro track was fucking spectacular. it feels like that last track is what the whole album was trying to achieve, but that track is the only that actually achieved it. a lot of cool moments on here, very proggy, obviously, which for me is hit or miss as there was defo a lot of stuff on here that wasn’t for me. however, i can absolutely respect the artistry taking place on this.

Pharoah Sanders - Karma
50

first time i've ever had to stop listening to an album because it was stressing me. this is pretentious shit, and anyone who says they seriously enjoy the section about 20 minutes into the first song is trying to get brownie points. can't finish this, overrated asf, sorry

Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
94

always an amazing feeling when you know you're going to love an album going into it, but you still leave with your jaw on the floor. that’s me here. i am floored by this thing. not for a second did it lose my attention, and it amounted to all the high expectations i gave it. eargasmic guitar tones, unusual but strangely addictive, catchy vocal runs/melodies, and spacey drums all glue together to give this record the most unique and enjoyable sound out of its contemporaries and make ... read more
