Glokk40Spaz - Baby Whoa 2
58

Some crazy bangers here but unfortunately it’s just way too long and stuffed with weird melodic cuts and edm/rap fusions and it be sounding pretty bad idc what some of y’all say.

perc40 - Flesh Wound
68

I’ve been avoiding plugg for a while and I don’t know why, maybe I’m just thinking that I won’t fuck with it. But this perc40 producer-album made me realise that I need to tap in.

Flesh Wound is absolutely fire from beginning to end with very few big misses and it’s mostly thanks to perc40. Man he got to be using dark magic because I can’t believe how some of these beats even manage to be slightly catchy with some ear rape 808s that completely overshadow ... read more

El Cousteau - Dirty Harry 2
69

Another good album and a splendid performance from El Cousteau although I’m not sure if it lives up to the first one. Dirty Harry 1 was just pure lightning in a bottle and felt so over the top while this one feels safer and less fun. Much of that is unfortunately because of the sub par production on some tracks even if not all beats were underwhelming. Rose Ave., Menace to Society and YeaYeaYea were some standout moments for sure.

I don’t know if I just dreamt what I’m about ... read more

Rakim - The RE-UP
58

If I had to make a qualified guess I’d say that they used some type of ai to separate Rakims vocals (and the features) from the original songs on his 2024 album, then they put those vocals on these new beats and called it a day!

One problem though, the vocal mixing sounds terrible, on like 75% of the tracks.
Whether it was laziness or Rakim genuinely not being able to tell the difference, we will never know. What I do know is that anyone who listened to G.O.Ds NETWORK - REB7RTH last ... read more

Sækyi - LOST IN AMERICA
41

Most hooks are terrible, Sækyi did not impress me with his rapping, and the album is too short. Even with its length, there still tend to be multiple nothing burgers of tracks woven into the tracklist. I’m left wondering what made so many people come to the conclusion that this is a great album.

Airospace - 戦場ヶ原 ひたぎ [vol. IV]
54

Textured beats which are spacey and echoey, while still managing to not sound deprived at all. Airospace flows great on them and there is not much else to it. However, I would’ve preferred if the tracks were longer; being 20 minutes and mainly consisting of short songs leaves me wanting way more than what is offered.

Saba & No I.D. - From the Private Collection of Saba and No I.D.
77

One of the catchiest projects of the year so far with beautifully layered (but still lofi) production by No ID. Because of its nature as a chill ass album I really can’t imagine anyone hating this. It’s just ear candy front to back.

My only gripes is that some of the songs are just not built upon enough and are chill to the point of where it just turns uninteresting.

clipping. - Dead Channel Sky
76

Album is slightly suffering from filler I'm afraid. The instrumental bits were fine but the short songs that just didn't go anywhere is what bugged me out. Tracks like "Go" (oh I'm a little pissed about this since it could have been so great if it were longer) "Mood Organ" and "Madcap" feel like short versions of other songs and adds absolutely nothing new to the table.
But let's not drag this down too much, except for the filler, the rest of ... read more

Hagakure - SHINE IN THE SHADOW
60

I have seen so much discourse online of people talking about how great Brother Tom Sos is and that the album needs to come out soon, but still nobody seemed to notice this dropping? It’s pretty much an Brother Tom Sos EP where he is rapping over beautiful Hagakure production, once again showing us why he deserves to be the new young star of Griselda.

Mike Shabb - shabbvangogh
77

Low-stake bangers with some of the most addictive beats I’ve heard in a while. Probably the best Mike Shabb project as of now although I’m veery sure that he will outdo this someday.

Injury Reserve - By the Time I Get to Phoenix
81

What an absolute Masterpiece!

Dave East - The Final Call
55

I have read a lot of reviews of people who really likes Armand Hammer but are having the problem were they think that Billy Woods outperforms Elucid on every single track and is a genuinely more interesting rapper. To these people it becomes a thing where they are waiting for Elucids verse to end so that they can hear the rapper which they like more.

I for one do not agree with this statement, some of Armand Hammers best songs wouldn’t work if not for Elucid, Woods himself have said in ... read more

Brother Ali - Satisfied Soul
72

In a month where hip hop releases has been disappointing to say the least, Brother Ali decides to grace us with another banger of an album.
The 17 track length stays consistent almost all the way throughout and everything is hitting; the rapping is brilliant and all of the tracks dwells into many different themes. And added on to that, the production by Ant which is energetic and always fun to listen to.
Underrated album that every hip hop fan should give a listen.

PARTYNEXTDOOR - $ome $exy $ongs 4 U
18

Corporate slop nothing more to it.
Also why does it feel like Drake fans here are defending this with their life even though it truly is ass. It’s ok if he is your favourite rapper but acknowledge that he is able to make a bad album.

Westside Gunn - 12
70

(50 > 80)

Edit: Let’s just say that most songs grew on me.

Westside gunn delivers a project with a lot of drumless production which ultimately fails to capture the quality of his last mixtape. Gunn is rarely the highlight on his own tracks and features like stove and especially brother tom sos (we need the album🙏) outshine him almost every time. Yeah ultimately I feel like gunn needs to calm down with his releases, I’d rather have one great album every other year or so than ... read more

RiTchie - Triple Digits [112]
50

(56 > 50)
I remember feeling confused about so many people thinking this was great last year so I decided to give it a relisten now to see if I’ve changed my mind. And yeah I am still as confused…
Most of the singles are amazing but why is there like 6 unfinished filler songs on here that adds nothing to the table? This album at its best is great bangers which has me excited for the by storm album coming later this year (hopefully) but at its worst it really is some of the most ... read more

Drake - For All The Dogs
30

The fact that the biggest rapper with an near infinite budget can’t make anything sonically more interesting than this is so disappointing

Edward Skeletrix - Museum Music

We are slaves, unless we are ammo, unless we are corpses.

Save me from this liminal storm. Sunny Day.

Yasin - Lost Tapes
32

”min bitch” is a generational banger but some other songs are just laughably bad such as “hooyo” or “min 9a”, something else that doesn’t really help is the fact that the mixing is terrible on most tracks

Logic - Aquarius III
30

I’m so happy that these songs weren’t on u85 cuz even if nothing here went extremely wrong it’s still just all sooo bland and uninteresting

On Kanye West - BULLY
"@bloxbusters It’s rooted in both. The Austrian architect Adolf Loos, seen as the inventor of western minimalism, wrote in a manifesto called “Ornament and Crime” his ideas behind it. I’d recommend you reading parts of it yourself, but to summarize: WHITE SUPREMACY. Loos says that ornaments come from the same desires as tatoos, to be “erotic”(😭), declaring that tatoos (a common non western tradition) belongs to “degenerates” and “criminals”. He later lists, while using slurs ofc, people of Slavic, Persian and African descent and claims these to be those less sophisticated. All of this above, and then there is his intention to remove every cultural object"

On Kanye West - BULLY
"@mangofried the aesthetics of Bully (+ the rollout) has been a very dull-grey minimalism. Minimalism in the western sense is rooted in fascism, cultural erasure while often praised in the capitalistic system for its ability to be mass produced. Bully is flavorless and the danger here lies in making hiphop: a multifarious rich culture into a block of cement. This devolution is harmful."
