JPEGMAFIA - All My Heroes Are Cornballs
NR

An odd stroke of genius for Peggy; he's much more bearable in the left-field through praxis than as a leftist in performance.

I guess I've grown cold on much of his other works, but this record I'll always be warm and welcoming to. Thoughts tactile, mosaic and messy but it's all a bit of a beautiful Pollock painting in how this piece culminates itself. There are these biting, starving artist raps present throughout that contrast in energy and sound to much of the ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - War Over Land

'Performative rebel rhetoric but the beat's incredible'

Yet Peggy no longer impresses me as a producer, nor a self-styled 'rebel'; what is he rebelling against anymore anyways? He’s long sold that image alongside his producer credits with the same degenerates he vowed it was 'On Sight' with. No dirty drum-work will ever knock that transgression out of me.

I feel he's always wanted to stand as an artist with something to say, but has never truly ... read more

E L U C I D - Valley of Grace
NR

An odd nostrum for when I fiend for Luci at his most abstract and aphoristic. 'Valley of Grace' is a far stray from home, but it's a moment in time where I've found E L U C I D at his most grounded.

I myself have been taking my time away to dream, to drift; intentionally. I am now long far from home, these days I couldn't tell you what home is. To this records sense, I do agree: self-care is a revolutionary act, and a cyclical one at that. The agency towards ... read more

Isaiah Rashad - IT'S BEEN AWFUL
NR

Zay has long been one of those artists I could find a form of *sohlace in: 'The Sun's Tirade' was a broken-record for me both summer and winter: still is to some extent. It was a record I could live in and live through, it was cozy there, welcoming, warm.

'IT'S BEEN AWFUL' just feels strikingly trite and uninspired at times. This clambering onto 'new', more stale, soluble sounds only seem to dilute his milieu. Is this music mellow, or just hollow? ... read more

departure - work of artist i love you
NR

To define an artist exceptional they must intrinsically inhibit not just a sense, but a motive towards agency. To set a rigid bar and determine whether the artist has reached that bar or imprisoned themself behind it. To subjugate the artist as a subject, as something inherently reprehensible. To set limits and quantify them down to something either reductive or productive to their intentions.

The work of an artist asks only one thing of you, to return that work (intact or not); to ground at ... read more
