MARINA - Electra Heart
80

Make sure you listen to the deluxe version, as the standard edition is missing 'Buy the Stars' and 'How to Be a Heartbreaker', two standout tracks.

Loreen - WILDFIRE
70

What an interesting release 9 years after Loreen's previous album. I dislike being negative because we finally got an album. At the same time, it does not live up to the expectations and is not good enough for a 9-year wait. I wish she had incorporated her roots more into this album.

There are some great songs on this album, for example, 'Is It Love' and 'Tattoo', but these songs are not new. 'Feels Like Heaven' is grand and I like it, but it sounds more like ... read more

Lorde - Pure Heroine
80

Very impressive debut coming from someone who was 16 at the time. I used to be obsessed with this album. I listened to it on repeat, bought the CD, and I have returned to it many times during the 2010s. Reflecting on the album today, it is not as exciting as it once was, mainly because I no longer relate to the slightly angsty, edgy, outcast vibe, and I stopped using Tumblr many years ago.

Madonna - Ray of Light
95

When many people thought Madonna did not have more to give, or that she was "over", she released her magnum opus and possibly the greatest "rebirth" album of all time. The production is beautiful and transcendent. The lyrics are vulnerable, reflective, and free-flowing. Her voice is angelic and soft, yet strong. The melodies are timeless.

Ray of Light is my favorite pop album, and I cannot bring myself to give this album anything lower than 95. Legendary magnum opus.

Britney Spears - The Singles Collection
90

The Princess of Pop.
The only songs missing from this compilation are 'Sometimes', 'Lucky', 'Overprotected', and 'Break the Ice'.

MARINA - FROOT
83

This album completes the holy trinity of Marina albums. FROOT still holds up 10+ years later. This was the first Marina album I listened to, and I still remember hearing Happy for the first time and being deeply moved by her voice and vulnerability. What a beautifully produced, written, and sung album. This is her magnum opus.

Lady Gaga - The Fame Monster (Deluxe Edition)
75

Incredible highs, but low lows. I grew up listening to 'The Fame' and 'The Fame Monster'. I still have 'The Fame Monster' CD that I bought in 2009. As I have gotten older, I have come to dislike some songs on 'The Fame'.
You cannot tell the history of pop music without this collection of songs. I cannot bring myself to give this anything lower than 75.

Lady Gaga - BORN THIS WAY THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY
80

I cannot bring myself to give this album anything lower than 80. This is possibly her magnum opus.
The updated album cover is a huge improvement over the original. The new CD booklet is great! This anniversary reissue gives the album a worthy and respectfully executed design update.
The “reimagined” versions are not good.

Madonna - Rebel Heart
65

There is a good 10-track album in here, depending on what you like, but the original version is bloated nonetheless. My favorite deluxe tracks are Messiah and Rebel Heart.

Madonna - The Immaculate Collection
92

An epic compilation. A crown jewel in her discography. This compilation alone, not even considering her later albums such as Ray of Light and Confessions, firmly puts the crown on Madonna's head.

Some versions really improve on the originals, for example, 'Lucky Star' and 'Like a Virgin'. The same goes for 'Into the Groove'. I also like the cleaner production on 'Open Your Heart' and 'Live to Tell'. The 'Like a Prayer' remix is ... read more

Madonna - Like a Prayer
90

What is there to say about this album that has not already been said? The songwriting is great, diving into Madonna's personal life in a way she had not previously done. It is honest and revealing, vulnerable. I love the instruments.

Like a Prayer feels euphoric. The bass, drums, her vocals, the melody, the choir, the electric guitar. It is rock/pop perfection. Express Yourself is a banger, and I love the horns. Till Death Do Us Part is catchy and raw, diving into her not-so-great ... read more
