hey AOTY! it's been a while! listened to a LOT of music in my time away from this site (although, a lot of Japanese ambient/new age & Aphex Twin to get me through my exams) and while there's plenty of albums I could review and plan to review eventually, I did decide to revisit an album I've been aware of and have listened to for a while and everything finally clicked.

Vespertine is a masterpiece. Up until this point ... read more

so. Dave is back.

his 2019 debut Psychodrama, while it has grown off me over time, remains an ambitious and frequently touching statement on mental health framed around a therapy session - as middle of the road the beats are and inconsistent the tracklist is, I still find it to be a compelling album that culminates in the masterpiece of Lesley. and, my instant criticism of his 2nd album, We're All Alone In This Together, comes in its similarities to Psychodrama. there's even more filler tracks ... read more

i don't know what the fuck she's talking about but you go girl!!

not her best ever vocal melody i suppose but the production here is super off-the wall, way more up front than most of Pang but hey, still excited for whatever this is leading to

it’s admittedly not as solid or boundary-pushing as the second volume, but honestly Tkay is still making some of the most forward-thinking pop rap fusions you can find out there right now, and I desperately wanna hear from her in a studio album capacity already. she’s easily one of the most talented performers out there right now and hones her lyricism a little more on this EP, especially on standouts like Cashmere. definitely staying in my summer rotation for a while.

FAVOURITE ... read more

pure darkness in audio form. music pushed to its harrowing limits. sure, i don't doubt that there's darker and more abrasive albums than this, but no piece of music that i've heard has emotions this palpable. nothing takes you on a journey into the deepest, most repulsive depths of human nature like The Downward Spiral. what Reznor has crafted here is unbelievable; a hellish concept that handles and even embraces death and destruction with reckless abandon that also manages to be some of the ... read more

Hi! I’m making a community list for the end of the world, and I would love for you to contribute.

Prompt:

“The surrounding buildings, in ruins. The remaining survivors, scrambling to find anything that remains. Fire flickers in the pitch-black, creating just a sliver of radiance. Miraculously, you find an old device that can play music. You can only play one album as the battery is nearly dead. Knowing that you have little time left, what is the one album that you choose to listen to as you watch the world crumble before your eyes?”

The album topic could discuss a disastrous time, its sound could fit the vibe of a post apocalyptic setting, or it could be one of your favorite albums that you would want to experience for the last time.

Please provide the artist, album, and an explanation as to why you chose that specific album.

Thank you for reading <3

RECS: I don't know if you listened but I would recommend Conway albums (if it is your first listen, From King to A God is the one you should listen. If it is not Hall N Nash, Griselda Ghost, Blakk Tape are great). I also recommend Chris Stapleton-Starting Over. It is criminally underrated even though Fantano gave it strong 8. It is a modern classic for me tho.
