I never listened to the samplers when they came out as I wanted to here the finished product, and yeah, don't regret it. "Losing Your Mind" is very repetitive with uninspired and bland production and vocals, don't blame Ye for cutting it, and this version of "Last Breath" is fucking terrible in every regard.
while this project is incredible and impressive to be produced by a 12/13 year old, it ultimately falls flat in a lot of regards due to repetitiveness and derivativeness (some of the tracks even give vibes of Yuno Miles' recent ALBUM, which makes sense given North is a huge Miles fan)
I ultimately couldn't take "H0W Sh0uld ! f33l" and "W0ah" seriously due to the sampling choices (again not blaming North, she is a 12 year old girl after all, one who is known to love ... read more
When I first heard Demon Days I thought it was a 7/10 album at best with not as many highs as Plastic Beach, but holy shit, there's a reason you need to hear an album a few times to genuinely form thoughts on it. This album is a masterclass in how to write commentary and even commentate on your commentary.
The obvious political messaging within the album is obvious enough but then you add in that ending where you have the Goodfolk and the Strangefolk, the innocent getting punished for the ... read more
I came into this album having only heard "Bonfire" off it, and so I expected the same sort of edgy shock-value music akin to Tyler The Creator's Goblin, so call me decently surprised when I hear largely beautiful and emotional tracks with incredible vocals that are completely unlike "Bonfire". Gambino's singing on this album is great, the guy has fucking range and the concept of partially being from the perspective of his younger self is executed really well ... read more
'The Motto' is a great track but it is so fucking out of place on Take Care, doesn't match the vibe of the album whatsoever.
Really strong album from Drake taking most of my issues with his previous album and mixtape away, HOWEVER Drake unfortunately is consistently outperformed by his features (especially on the Buried Alive Interlude by Kendrick, genuinely disrespectful what Drake did to that song during the beef) and kind of looses that consistency near the end, Practice being a genuinely terrible song (sounds like a knockoff Get Low) and it begins to have the boring bland issues of Thank Me Later.
The end also ... read more
There is something weirdly magical about hearing one of bbno$' earliest projects, just the authenticity and rawness at display. I'd argue Strains is one of bbno$' best songs he's made.
A marginal improvement over "So Far Gone", still drags in the beginning but the tracks after that are good with albiet basic themes. I prefer the production here and the vocals in "So Far Gone"
I think this is definitely one of those cases where less is better, even the songs I didn't care as much about on mixtape sound better here
An already great album with a great song that is the best of it's series and one of Kendrick's best songs.
To quote myself a year ago "Cool nice sampling, good lyrics, I don't know nothing crazy"
Considering I have not decided to revisit this album I'll take my words at it.
I remember first hearing this in 2024 and thinking it was fucking mid and don't feel like relistening to check
Drake's 3rd Mixtape is decent, some definite highlights like "Let's Call It Off", the Kanye remix "Say What's Real", "Brand New", and Coldplay sampling "Congratulations", however dragged down by some mid and at times boring songs. Not to mention it sounds like Lil Wayne is phoning it in a lot.
"Unstoppable" starts off great but becomes incredibly dogshit as it continues, and "Uptown" drags out.
Solid, and wish Drake ... read more
While I can usually praise Yuno for making purposely bad songs, this is a genuine attempt at music which is extremely mid beyond "InMyZone"
Not a big country fan, but this is a really great and fun little project. I enjoyed Momo Boyd on Good Flirts with Baby Keem earlier this year so I was definitely excited (and excited to see what's next).
I'd say some of it doesn't hit as hard for me, partially because I'm not big on country as I stated, but it's got great songs like "Big Country" and "Oops" (which I'm 100% adding to my playlist, great beat and vibe).
But yeah, solid.
I came into this project with the expectation that these remixes were going to be terrible and this was going to be absolute "slop" (contrary to the name), with annoying changes and missing tracks. But this thing truly blew me away, it's not the greatest thing I've heard this year, but it's endearing.
The EP has this ethereal feel and it's very enjoyable, could see myself listening to this while trying to fall asleep if you get what I mean, it's definitely ... read more
Listened to this album while cleaning and it was just, magical. Thundercat's vocals are stunning, the production is incredible, the features are fun. At most I'd say some songs are repetitive but even those are endearing. There's definitely a lot of emotion to unpack here and Thundercat executes that incredibly well.
Can't name a single bad song off here, only "Great Americans" comes close but the messaging with the silly cat noises makes up for it.
I've been ... read more
Yeah, for a surprise drop this is pretty fire, wondering if we'll see more of Cudi this year though.
