Apollo Brown is having a really great year. For a while, it felt like he was slipping into simplicity, but this year he’s two-for-two, whether it’s with Bronze Nazareth or Ty Farris. And Ty Farris lyrically he’s sharp wow ; I really liked what I heard from him. A great project that captures the kind of rap we love.
It took me a while before I listened to it. The album gives off a crazy vibe, quite hypnotic, with a dark kind of music that brings back memories. That being said, I do agree with some opinions that each track ends up sounding way too similar!
Exile is so fire — definitely in the conversation for best producers! The storytelling is pretty moving, the rap performances are solid though you can feel they could push a bit further! Still, it’s without a doubt a very good album.
@OgPietroo excellent recommendation from the one and only OG Pietro. You can really see where Billy Woods (among others, since he’s one of my favorite rappers) drew his inspiration from! Very conscious, sharp lyricism, the production feels a bit restrained at times, maybe a little light, but we’re fully immersed in this temporal trip that the album takes us on! This album inspired an entire generation — you can feel it!
@ongp Thanks for the recommendation! Honestly, I didn’t know any of the artists, but I was really impressed by the captivating atmosphere of the project. While the rap performances are decent but nothing extraordinary, it’s mainly the universe of the album that struck me—the way the vocals blend with the productions creates such a floating, immersive world! It’s a project that plays effortlessly and is very easy to listen to.
Pwaaa, Stove never misses — it’s pure quality. Roc Marciano is definitely one of, if not the best, producers of our generation, no doubt about it!!! Stove has this ability to cut through with razor-sharp verses and then switch seamlessly into sung hooks. His potential is just out of this world — he could so easily break into the mainstream! Too bad this album wasn’t released publicly, because it really shows Stove being Stove — impossible to be disappointed! ... read more
Liana Flores’ voice, soft and authentic, blends perfectly with the bossa nova arrangements and touches of soul and jazz, creating an intimate and captivating atmosphere. Each listen reveals new nuances, and this album completely got me.
I just discovered the group, and I don’t think this is my best introduction… The album is too uneven, lacking consistency! That said, I’m going to keep going to give them a proper listen on an other project …
Really surprised by this project! It reminds us why we love good old New York rap, with legendary features! Everyone is here to kill it over Big Ghost’s sublime productions. It feels so good to go back to the basics! When you listen to a project like this I just want to say Long live hip-hop !!
A great year for Che Noir, who continues to treat us in the best way. The features fit perfectly with her universe and the productions, and Che Noir delivers exactly what she does best! A jazzy atmosphere that matches her flow perfectly.
A trilogy ending with a consistent level… nothing wild, but not bad…
After three years of absence, we expected a lot, but Joey rested on his laurels — we know he can do better! After his appearances, freestyles, and clashes since early 2025, we were hoping for the great Joey. He put unnecessary pressure on himself. Even though there are some excellent tracks (shoutout to Rome Streetz, CJ Fly, Kai Ca$h), the album overall is still just nice and leaves us a bit puzzled…
Very high-quality rapper! He establishes himself as an iconic figure in Southern rap. But he gets repetitive over an entire album, with a serious lack of variation!
For me, Retropolitan is a very solid project. Pete Rock’s productions are flawless and bring real warmth to every track. Skyzoo delivers with his flow and precise lyrics, blending storytelling and sharp punchlines. The album pays homage to classic boom-bap while staying fresh and enjoyable to listen to. A strong project that I recommend to fans of New York hip-hop. For me, Skyzoo has remained the very essence of New York since the 2000s!
For me, this project is a truly emotional journey. I was immediately immersed in a dreamy and melancholic world (which I had never known before, it was my first time listening shoegaze), where every sound tells a story. The fusion of lo-fi, shoegaze, and indie rock is perfectly executed, and each listen reveals new details. To See the Next Part of the Dream completely captivated me and showcases all of Parannoul’s sensitivity. I discovered an incredible world thanks to this album, and I ... read more
This psychedelic rock frenzy blends perfectly with the bossa of its time, in 1969. Avant-garde, she dared to add rock to Brazilian bossa — a bold move! And she pulled it off. A unique bossa classic in its genre, with a secret only she could hold. You can only stand up and applaud this risk-taking: blending such styles is never easy, yet she does it with remarkable ease and the simplicity that bossa is meant to have. It’s powerful — Gal Costa truly brought her own style!
Rahhhh, je revois ma jeunesse ! Mais je ne sais pas si je serais capable de réécouter ce projet — il est dans le jus de l’époque ! C’est tout, laissons-le là où il doit être…
