Celestial Clockwork is a pioneer of Abstract Hip Hop, and a must listen for the genre. Stylistically it sounds similar to Labor Days in its roughness, but more intricate to fit the “clockwork” idea. This results in Illogic feeling more technically impressive, though I believe Aes’ to be the superior Emcee. One of abstract hip hop's most essential releases. There's more to classic abstract hip hop than Aesop Rock and MF Doom. If there were pillars of the genre, Celestial Clockwork would be deeply engraved in one of them. This is one of the best rap albums of 2004, up there with albums by Kanye West, Cam'ron, and MF Doom.
