There's a variant of this album on Spotify with track-by-track commentary inbetween every song. in practice goes something like
- "yeah we really like this one, uh... we'd been sitting on that riff for a while and uh....then jesse had this great idea, i hope u like it :)"
- WOOOAHHH [production that makes every instrument just sound like noise] OOOO I LOVE YOU GIRLLL OOOHHH
They recorded their most sonically diverse album yet and just jumped ship to Moves Like Jagger right after because the papers were being mean to Adam Levine
The quality of Maroon 5 albums is directly proportional to how much swag Adam Levine had at the time and I genuinely don't think he has ever had a swaggier moment than the Makes Me Wonder music video.
a third of the songs are the coolest blend of oasis and psychedelic rock ever and feel like the perfect way to 2000s-ify the band but then another third is oasis failing to write oasis songs
>Song called "My Big Mouth"
>First line:
EVERYBODY NOSE 👃‼️
BUT NOONE SEE A MUFFIN 🧁‼️
what the fuck noel.
Given that this is one of the only collaboratively-written Strokes records I like to imagine the other members wrote One Way Trigger as a sadistic prank toward Julian Casablancas' vocal chords.
The bubble chamber is so many times better than the butt cover. Like – aside from the bubble chamber looking way cooler – Julian Casablancas might be one of the least horny frontmen I've ever seen. Even the times where he Tries to sound seductive he mostly just ends up sounds depressed in like a vaguely cool way.
He's like an inverse Adam Levine.
The YouTube marketing with this album is so funny. Imagine going from RWJ to the band he's promoting only to be met with WHERE'S MY SEX I THOUGHT IT WAS HEREEEEE
Speaking of which; dude Rivers fucking BELTS on this record for no reason. Most other records he sounds reigned in and controlled but here he's going at it at full force singing about bullshit. His ocular nerve went pop zoom 👀‼️
I could write an academic paper about the genius of this album and only half of them would be talking about how Adam Levine is the funniest guy of all time. The quiet little autotuned ~yeaa-heah~ after the bridge on She Will Be Loved fucking kills me every time.
I feel like its a mandatory ritual for all Weezer fans to eventually go through the five stages of grief with this album until finally recognizing that it's good and even the bad parts are actually a little bit good if you think about it.
(Spider and King should've been on the album instead of Cold Dark World and Automatic)
It's as if Rivers spends the entire album trying to dial in the right level of corniness but his hand slips cartoonishly every time he gets it right
"I just started strumming these chords and started singing [...] I had no idea what I was singing about. And then at the end I had a full song and I still don't even know what it's about. And there's a lot of songs I've written like that [on] Green Album."
Its very funny to me that this album is almost entirely (self-admitted!) vapid sludge EXCEPT for the three songs about doing drugs and chilling out.
its my first day at weezer blue fan club i hope they dont realize i prefer red
There's something so endearing about hearing Liam Gallagher sing with such earnestness before he became the hottest shit in the world. Rock 'n' Roll Star and Live Forever sound like Disney Princess 'I Want' songs while the whole of the album sounds like its trying so earnestly to be taken sincerely. It's adorable!
It almost feels like cheating to call this the best Oasis album since they basically just hand-picked the best songs from their whole 4 years of making music.
But like, it is that.
