Kenny Mason - BULLDAWG

Oh my... How refreshing is it to listen to someone in the new rap gen and not having to puke! Production is slick - you can tell the producers don't just build their careers off being TCD dickriders - and Kenny rarely uses weird voice inflections when getting in his feelings or whatever, he actually has real mic presence. Refreshing! I don't know if I've just been avoiding the good hip-hop releases lately, but I do not feel as if anybody has been releasing shit like this lately. ... read more

Portishead - Dummy

Insanely spooky, beautiful and gut-wrenching - both Beth Gibbons' haunting vocals and the chilling instrumentals contribute. Well-sequenced too. I used to have an issue with this album, as it didn't smack me in the face nearly as hard as the industrial elements on Mezzanine did, hence why I loved - and still love - that album. This offers something different though, as it's more lowkey in tone. Mezzanine = wild, in your face. Dummy = silently haunting, saddening.

George Michael - The Strangest Thing ‘97

Maxwell is one of 90's souls greats, and this is a testament to that.

"@Karma413 I get you, but I'd like my favorite rapper to back the claims up. If Jay Z said it (although he wouldn't, not his typa bar), the bar would have an easier time winning me over, because his penmanship IS ridiculous. But still, I just find the word choices to be sorta wack, but that might just be me."
