Listening to this in a dark room with a weighted blanket gives me an indescribable feeling that I, quite frankly, don't ever see being replicated. The weird thing about it, however, is that I can't fully pinpoint what it is about this album that makes me feel that way. Maybe it's the intense loneliness the echoey, reverb-soaked jazz samples produce. Or maybe it's the play on themes of dementia and demise. Whatever it may be, Kirby absolutely nails it.
Black Midi's ability to fuse aspects of shoegaze and non-rhythmic math-rock has made for one of the most forward-thinking pieces of music I've heard all year.
