A personal favourite of mine, nearly every track hits hard. The consistent themes of loneliness, the metaphoric ‘yellow bird’, its honest and intimate feeling. Some of Obrest’s best writing, simply a cut above the rest for the genre and time in my opinion.
Batshit crazy, still don’t know what it’s trying to do really, can’t find much of a common thread tying the project together. Definitely really fun, I think the sound just isn’t for me. Sounds like one of those records that might grow on me after a few more listens. Definitely interested in what the band put out in the future.

The heights of the highs and depths of the lows on this project are remarkable. This is one of the craziest rides I’ve had in a good while, the nods and implementations of post-rock sonic tags all over this record are used in a way that come across as much more tasteful and genuine in origin than most others’ attempts to do the same thing. I do think the vocal deliveries and harmonic choices get a little played out towards the end of the record, but that downside is more than made ... read more
