The Cure - The Head on the Door
86

I love every Cure album (obviously), but honestly, I've never really connected with this one. I like the songs individually, but I don't really see why they should belong together. ‘The Baby Screams’ and ‘The Blood’ seem out of place to me... Yet, I still enjoy this album immensely. ‘A Night Like This’ is one of their best songs ever.

Favourite song: A Night Like This

They needed something like this after the intense 1982 ‘Pornography’ and I don’t blame them. Surprisingly enough I really like this record, some songs more than others… Silly weird album

Favourite song: Shake Dog Shake
Least favourite song: The Caterpillar

The Cure - Three Imaginary Boys

Very good album but personally I love their gloomy goth albums a lot more…

Favourite song: Subway Song / Three Imaginary Boys
Least favourite song: The Weedy Burton

The Cure - Seventeen Seconds

Huge improvement after Three Imaginary Boys. They discovered their own sound.

Favourite song: Three
(Obviously A Forest is objectively the best song on the album, but my personal favourite is Three)

Least Favourite song: The Final Sound

Ethel Cain - Perverts

This record changed my life for the better. She took this risk and it was definitely worth it.

Favourite song: Punish

Ethel Cain - Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You

Beautiful record but I feel like there’s something missing... I do love every second of it though and will be listening to this on repeat for the next few weeks.

Favourite song: Dust Bowl
Least Favourite song: Fuck Me Eyes (Rated: 76)

EDITED Review:

It's a couple months later, I have been listening to this on repeat and I can easily say that this has grown to be one of my favourite records of all time. Tempest is one of the best pieces of music ever created really... Wow. ... read more

Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter

Took me some time to get used to the pop sound - as I usually do not listen to pop music. But this record is something else. Hayden is an outstanding lyricist.

Favourite song: Ptolemaea
Least favourite song: American Teenager

The Cure - Faith

The masters of doom and gloom… The Cure is my religion. More than perfect.

Favourite song: The Drowning Man
Least favourite song: Doubt

The Cure - Songs of a Lost World

This album is insane… Truly heartbreaking but so beautiful in every way. 🖤 At first I did not want to rate it 100 because Disintegration and Pornography are the only perfect albums to me but this record is definitely up there.

I didn’t even exist when Disintegration came out in 1989 but I feel like this release comes very close to that… I am so grateful to be able to be alive at the same time as The Cure

Favourite song: Warsong
Least Favourite song: A Fragile Thing

The Cure - Pornography

Again, one of the best albums ever created.
This album holds such an intense, melancholic atmosphere. Like Robert Smith said: “I had two choices at the time, which were either completely giving in [committing suicide] or making a record of it and getting it out of me.” You can feel that weight throughout the entire record.

The drums on this album are immaculate, especially on the title track ‘Pornography’. They seem to grow louder as the song progresses, intensifying ... read more

The Cure - Disintegration

Disintegration sounds like the soundtrack to my own funeral — achingly beautiful, haunting, and utterly transcendent. It is beyond perfect. Robert Smith’s lyrics are devastating, his voice trembling on the edge of collapse, while the immaculate instrumentation creates an entire world for the listener to lose themselves in. I’ve spent years searching for something that evokes the same feeling as this album, and nothing else comes close. Disintegration exists in a realm of its ... read more
