Tim Buckley - Starsailor
89

Tim Fuckley unleashes his inner monkey and casts the Curse of Imhotep onto innocent passersby who saw the handsome young gentleman on the cover and thought this would be a nice smooth singer-songwriter album.
Extremely fascinating and ahead of its time, with some amazing vocal performances. Switches between "catchy-weird" and "absolutely nightmare inducing-weird" fairly quickly. Truly the final boss of folk music. Don't play the title track in front of grandma.

Už Jsme Doma - Uprostřed slov

Czech Cardiacs with unhinged saxophones. I think this was made specifically for me. Don't know what a single song was really about, random religious chanting, repeating the same gibberish phrase for 3 minutes - truly peak.
Standout tracks: "Juleček", "Uprosťred slov", "Soubor opatření"

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Live at Red Rocks '22
91

Celebrating 1000 ratings by casting away my god-given right to complain about album length ever again.

The energy on here is unmatched. One of the most impressive live albums of all time, with some absolutely insane performances. "Iron Lung" and "Rattlesnake" were the biggest highlights for me personally, but even some lesser songs I never particularly cared for like "Perihelion" and the entirety of MOTU shined a lot.
That being said, don't listen to this all in ... read more

Wild Butter - Wild Butter

Haha funny flying stick of butter. The second best album titled after a famously yellow dairy product with a 9th track named "Tommy the Cat".
Pretty good psychedelic pop - I really liked the Bee Gees cover that wraps up the album and probably prefer it over the original.

The keyboardist of this band later went on to write the fucking Pac-Man Fever song. I felt like I had uncovered some ancient Egyptian tablet I was never meant to lay my mortal eyes on when I learned that for the ... read more

Martin Linda - Berušky OST

(Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k7yUDYnjj3c)
I have nostalgia for some really weird things, but god damn, this super obscure MS-DOS Sokoban clone from 1999, Czech Republic, where you play as ladybugs has lived rent-free in my head for almost two decades now.
Genuinely one of my favorite video game soundtracks of all time. I don't know how to describe or classify this. It's surprisingly really atmospheric and dark at times, but also funky and electronic at other times. There's vinyl ... read more

Dunaj - Rosol
88

Black Midi who? Absolutely fucking insane Avant-Prog album from Czechoslovakia. Reminds me of a lot of different bands, like Einstürzende Neubauten, Swans or King Crimson, but this album certainly does its own distinct thing. A very weird and enjoyable assault on my ears.
Don't worry about the language barrier that much - I speak this language basically two times (Czech and Slovak) and I barely understand what any of the lyrics mean.

Standout tracks: "Ouvertura", ... read more

Mark Gormley - Mark Gormley
85

Listened to this reupload which has a slightly different (and longer) track list: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cX5rBB1ONY

Wow, this is actually really amazing. While it's easy to dismiss Mark Gormley's work as "haha funny old guy power-stancing in front of a green screen", he's honestly a very good singer and songwriter. The home-made production gives these songs a strangely nostalgic charm that makes me feel emotions that don't exist.
Deserves way more attention! I hope the ... read more

Roger Waters - The Dark Side of the Moon Redux
27

Aww man, I was really hoping this would be funny bad, but it's just really boring.
We need more classic rock artists to go fucking insane. The people demand a dark remake of "Yellow Submarine" narrated by Ringo Starr like it's an RPG sidequest synopsis.

Tim Follin - Silver Surfer
85

This is the musical equivalent of painting the Mona Lisa using only Microsoft Paint after being commissioned to draw a stickman.
Not even modern retro games like Shovel Knight go this hard. Oh and Tim Follin was 19 when he made this.

Cardiacs - Sing to God
100

Clearly you don't own an air fryer.

This album sounds like being stranded in The Goblin Dimension where the trees grow sideways and the sun is replaced by an ominous giant eye watching your every move.
Absolutely not something for everyone and I don't blame you if you think this is goofy artsy bullshit for NERDS, but it's just so creative and psychotic that I can't help but love it. There's really nothing else like this.

I was very much not surprised to learn that both Cyriak and the Salad ... read more

Various Artists - Music from Mathematics
75

"Music From Mathematics" has to be one of the most interesting albums of all time. It was created by scientists from Bell Telephone Laboratories working with early computers in the early 60s, more specifically an IBM 7090 with a whopping 32KB of memory.

The highlight has to be "Bicycle Built For Two", probably better known as "Daisy Bell" - the earliest demonstration of computer speech synthesis (and the inspiration for HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey).

Taeha Types - Mechanical Keyboard Sounds: Recordings of Bespoke and Customised Mechanical Keyboards
8

This most definitely is 46 minutes of mechanical keyboard sounds. Yes, this is a real album - you can get it on vinyl, so the only difference between this and Pink Floyd is that this doesn't feature Nick Mason on drums as far as I know.

I don't even know if this counts as ASMR or anything like that. Man's typing like it's 11:58 and he's got an essay due at midnight.

IFA Wartburg - Im Dienste des Sozialismus

EINS ZWEI DREI, DIE BESTE PARTEI
Swedish guys pretending to be a band created by the East German government. It's so stupid. I love it. "FDJ (Freie Deutsche Jugend)" is a banger.
