Michael Jackson - Thriller
85

I’m someone who likes Michael more in his deeper cuts and album tracks than the big hits on average. Apart from the near flawless Rock With You, many of his biggest singles feel a little too polished where the soul isn’t quite there as much as I’d want. So all in all for me the biggest hits are kinda just as good as some of the deep cuts if not a little worse. Still obviously a very high quality album, even if songs like Billie Jean or Thriller don’t hit me that hard ... read more

Thundercat - Distracted
78

A groovy pleasant, overall time from Thundercat. Maybe my favorite of his projects even if it loses a bit of steam.

Arlo Parks - Senses
70

kinda feels like a bargain basement sampha song, which makes it not very satisfying as an arlo song or a sampha song

Arlo Parks - Ambiguous Desire
76

Not fully the glowing piece of dance pop I was hoping for from the first few singles, Arlo still delivers a mostly satisfying and thoughtful third record.

My biggest critique is the vocal mix — razor sharp on the singles but buried and subdued on much of the rest of the project. It makes the project sorta blend a bit. The production is again also much more subtle / less vivid on the album tracks than the single tracks. A lot of it tends to pass by without the stickiness or memorability ... read more

Arlo Parks - Beams
78

Still very pretty but definitely less memorable than the first 3

Kanye West - JESUS IS KING
58

Kind of a poorly done nothing burger IMO, Kanye doing a Gospel album could have been one of his best albums, and I respect him for even releasing one, but instead of being great, it's boring, vapid, and fairly readily his worst Kanye-released project.

Kanye West - FATHER
84

The mv kinda better than any of the songs

Kanye West - BULLY
65

With a few more weeks building on the production of what’s here with drums, new vocals, better mixing, and more complex production, this could actually be pretty peak. For now it’s just OK, which for 2026 Kanye is still a more than fine place to be at. Some really enjoyable ideas here though. His rapping still has that sticky / iconic quality to it that makes his earlier albums so great.

I hope he continues on a path to better health and healing.

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.
86

A stunning, uplifting album from RAYE, with some absolutely PEAK songs. Probably the best album since 2024.

Gorgeous orchestrations, generation-best vocals, and fantastic production and concepts all come together in a near-perfect storm to make what can be best described as a stage play in album form. Phenomenal.

Charlie Puth - Whatever's Clever!
78

Mannnn I’m so impressed by this. Charlie has always been someone I’ve counted out a bit for making tepid, overtuned songs with no soul or personality. Well Charlie has come through with his newest album, Whatever’s Clever, and I’m happy to report this is far and away his best, most soulful, least tuned project yet.

I liked the singles decently but where this album really opens up are in its deep cuts. Tracks like Don’t Meet Your Heroes, Washed Up, Sideways and Hey ... read more

Kanye West - ye
72

An interesting ambient-y project from Kanye, but I can't say I really love a lot of it. Most of it's fine, with two nice ending tracks.

RAYE - Click Clack Symphony.
70

I like the song a lot but the music video is just OK-- some very creative stuff but also some stuff that plays a bit overkill and almost makes the song a little silly at times or too overly grand. Still good tho

Miles Caton - Don’t Hate Me
78

It's nice, but better songwriting and production would really bring out his voice. For now his vocals here are not nearly as strong as in Sinners due to the way they're being used. I don't know if I would recognize his vocal talent from this song alone.

RAYE - Click Clack Symphony.
81

There's certainly some very impressive elements here but I do feel like it's a fairly messy song as well. Some very cool stuff tho. Probably a better album song than single. I love the Eleanor Rigby esque strings.

Jack Harlow - Monica
67

Super smooth project, but nothing much more. Something with a variety between the hip-hop of Jackman and the more uptempo tracks like Trade Places and Lonesome could've made a really tight project. Jack's voice is pleasant but not an elevator, which is really what a project with production like this needed; great harmony, etc. -- this production even with these lyrics could be in the mid 70s with a voice and layering like D'Angelo. It's just a fine project, rarely more, ... read more

Thundercat - ThunderWave
80

Def one of thundercats more distinctive singles

Arlo Parks - Get Go
86

PEAK ARLO IS BACK

Really awesome vibe. Loving every single so far. The production is just so much more detailed than My Soft Machine. Very strong.

Charlie Puth - Home
79

Charlie's still far from the best lyricist but this is a very sweet single, and I'm feeling more and more confident this will be his best project.

"@niconsoli honestly i would love to see someone trying to create like a sort of modern blues -- I know R&B IS modern blues to a degree, but I mean more literally-- straight up blues with modern elements. His voice needs something to really get into like in the Sinners soundtrack"
