NF - CLOUDS (THE MIXTAPE)
75

While Clouds as a project isn't my favorite project from NF overall, it shows a higher stylistic versatility than The Search, and feels a bit more experimental while still holding a signature NF sound. There are standouts like Clouds, Story, Layers, and Paid My Dues, paired with really solid tracks like Lost, Trust, Drifting and Prideful.

My biggest issues are in Tracks 2 and 3. That's A Joke is a braggy, jokey song that generally doesn't work for me. I get that it may be trying to poke fun at ... read more

NF - HOPE
85

A very solid track from NF; while not as concise as his best tracks such as "The Search" or even really great songs like "Clouds" and "Story", it teases a new era for NF while still keeping intact a signature sound. I think what could be considered a redundant sound for NF here (though balanced out with fresh piano sounds and trap-drums that feel new) makes perfect sense in the context of an opening that is making the transition into a newer, healthier era for Nate.

NF - MOTTO

While not NF's best track, especially lyrically, it still maintains in my opinion a really solid hook and a fresh sound that leaves me excited to see where Hope goes next.

"@niconsoli honestly i would love to see someone trying to create like a sort of modern blues -- I know R&B IS modern blues to a degree, but I mean more literally-- straight up blues with modern elements. His voice needs something to really get into like in the Sinners soundtrack"

"@groundedmusique Unfortunately musically I find it to be really really lacking, and even lyrically what he's saying is emotional but I don't think it's particularly good. Honestly it felt like an NF song to me. Obviously he talks about a lot of things that are really important to him but that doesn't equate to me finding the song good"

"@BuckGotThoughts agreed, I feel there's an excellent 16 track project here."
