Not gonna rate rn but it is odd that the track averages are 78 and the album is a 67...
The only album of Kendrick's that I've actually percolated on so far. I plan on going through his others but I happened to be looking up albums coming out that week last year, and at that time I had barely heard of Kendrick. Having heard the Heart Part 5, my interest was piqued enough to give the album a listen at 3am, taking me deep into the night.
What followed was probably the greatest artistic listen I've had. For one of the first times in music, I felt that I was missing so much on a ... read more
As someone who's not a Travis Scott listener in the past (this is my first full album), I really dig this project. At first I felt it was a little boring but it has really grown on subsequent listens. It's not necessarily the style of music that I'd listen to every day but geez does this record have high points-- and the lows just aren't that low. At worst, it's bland (god's country, k-pop) and at best it's experimentally incredible. I do think this album will age well.
Not as interesting or conceptually unique as IGOR but still really nice. Has a cool developmental progression as the album goes on and really enjoy it. However, I personally don't like the DJ Drama inclusions throughout the record.
I like the idea of having a DJ Drama-esque character on the album-- it fits-- but a lot of the lines and performances seem oddly corny in a way that clashes with Tyler's style. "Oh yeah, me? I go by the name of DJ Drama. Way too lavish to post on the ... read more
Found on YouTube trending and saw there was no AOTY yet and this was her first single. 500k views and no page. Actually really cool! Some super unique vocal qualities. Worth a listen.
It's really nice but tbh Caleb carries this one. Connor's verses are nice but I don't think this is where his talents fit the best. He's a good singer but I don't think it stands out as much as his rap verses.
Pretty solid-- not the best of this new cycle mainly cuz I feel like the first 30 seconds to a minute is a bit boring. Chorus slaps tho
Just here to rate Second Arrangement-- check out the Jive Miguel version 5 restoration. Gorgeous song, one of Steely's best. A terrible shame it got recorded over. What a tight groove. Check it out!
Doesn't feel like an insane evolution from SOUR--and can occasionally dip into a few slight cliches, but insane vocals, a really well structured chorus and well-needed emotion make this song really work.
Solid overall-- IMO a bit of a return to form after songs like Vroom, It's Going Down and Still Hot being misses for me, with no songs I'm passionate about since Swing. They pair well when their lyrics and production are on point-- just doesn't always happen.
Still Hot - 60/100
Unfair - 75/100
Big Pockets - 72/100
Bankroll - 85/100
Tuesday - 79/100
It's Going Down - 52/100
Swordfish - 77/100
Gasoline - 83/100
Good stuff all around-- however, I feel that Backstreet Girl is forgettable and This is How it Feels is d4vd's weakest track I've heard. Love songs like Sleep Well, Here With Me, Don't Forget About Me and The Bridge.
Finally a creatively fresh CP song! Like this one. The bars could be a little less past-success focused but one of the best connor price songs in a minute.
Really solid. I agree that songs like Silk and Cologne and Link Up are pretty poor (Link Up has great production and a wonderful beat but BEAM's chorus ruins it IMO) but overall this is a great Spiderverse album, super satisfying. Don't love 21 on the songs he's on, at least Nonviolent Communication. I think Coi Leray deserves more credit for her track-- I know her other music is pretty hated but I think Self Love is one of the strongest tracks on the album.
Eh. Alright ig-- I just want to see some passion/hunger in connor's lyrics again. The last few songs have been saying the same thing, and in my opinion, non-interestingly. "Did it all of of a TikTok", we're successful and rising to the top, etc.
Would just really like to see some topical variety and something that feels like Connor isn't just phoning it in, because to be honest that's what the last few tracks have felt like. If you're gonna rap about success, at least do it with ... read more
Awesome! Super happy with the result. I liked the singles but honestly I really resonate much more with the album songs overall so far. Brings back some of the coffeehouse soundscape from Collapsed but in a fresh way that diverges. Hits the points I really wanted. Never quite reaches Collapsed levels-- I do feel like on first listen that while I prefer the back-end production, that the lyrics are weaker overall, even with highlights on I'm Sorry and Ghost.
Still an incredibly strong ... read more
