Really dig this one. The lush backing track and addictive flows on this one feel different from "Collapsed" but still carry over the most important elements that make her music so impressive.
While I really like the track and lyricism, I think Arlo's voice sounds a little high comparatively to old tracks and it bothers me a bit. Still hyped for the new album.
Incredible album from Arlo Parks. Decided to give it a shot without knowing anything prior and have been addicted to it for the last week. Just love everything about this one. Songs like For Violet and Bluish could maybe use a few more interesting production choices that are seen more earlier in the album, but the lyricism and beats are really fantastic. This is my favorite album I've heard this year. Excited for the next one. This album has a texture that no other album I've heard ... read more
Probably Justin's best album, ahead of Justice and Purpose. I think the biggest thing that annoys me is Justin's younger voice, but if you watch the TikTok live version done in 2021, it's actually really great R&B at times, and really fun. Sad this didnt get the attention of the others.
IDK why this is rated THIS poorly... sure, it's messy, and rushed (was made in 3 days)... but as a little EP that celebrates Easter while showing Justin's relationship with God off in a more personal light, it's fine. Sure, the preaching at the end of the later tracks makes it nearly impossible to put anything on a playlist, I actually dig songs like Freedom. As a project that was made quickly and just as a nice message for Easter, I don't understand the level of hate this one gets.
Yeah, this one just doesn't work for me. The production is messy, and while there are some good vocals from Justin and some light bangers like Intentions and All Around Me, the overall project just feels very poorly done. And yeah, the line "I'm going through changes, no I ain't changed" is very dumb LOL-- I really like some of Justin's other work but this one just clearly didn't hit the level of quality he's capable of.
Suncity is a really nice bridge between Free Spirit, my favorite Khalid project, and American Teen. It's more mature, reflective on his newfound success, and really just works well on most levels. I do think that Suncity, while a nice track, feels a bit out of place, but as a closer I guess I can appreciate it. This EP has some of Khalid's greatest songs from Free Spirit too, like Better (which was actually the track I used to get me in a screenwriting mindset for my movie, so it has a lot of ... read more
I think this album has some really solid ideas, catchy hooks and more. Songs like Coaster are really beautiful, and tracks like 8TEEN are really fun, and the album overall has a very nice sound and perspective. I do think that the songs can get boring at times but overall it's a really nice album that, while not necessarily fully cohesive, is really nice to listen to.
Overall, while I like this project, it lacks any real passion of Free Spirit and any real relatability of American Teen. It's a fine collection of R&B tracks, and nothing more. Songs like Retrograde hit a bit harder, and I absolutely love Voicemail, but apart from that, it's just fine to me. Not disappointed, but not super impressed either given how much I love Free Spirit.
EDIT: I'm leaving the 90 because of the impact this had on my life, but I do recognize that some of it is unremarkable. I still think it should be over 60 average, and think it could have high 60s if it were better sequenced. I think I score it so high because I just love the way this whole thing sounds. The lush sounds, bass and guitar combo is killer and while it isn't always doing remarkable things within that sound, it's a sound I love and that's part of what makes this ... read more
I get that Justin Bieber will probably never get a great AOTY score; it just won't happen. But I do think this deserves a bit more credit. Songs like 2 Much, Off My Face and Holy are really nice songs, and there are a lot of solid pop songs on here. I get that the obscene MLK uses really degrade the overall experience... apart from MLK's words, even the theme of Justice is not tackled a single time in the album. At all. That said, I think if you take those out, you're left with a solid pop ... read more
I think this one's nice; not as good as previous collabs like Silence, but overall works fine and is a fun listen.
Overall it's a nice track-- I like the vocals in the chorus; the main thing I don't like is the little whistle at the start... it feels kind of like a western and IMO doesnt fit in with the rest of the track. The verses are fine, but not super interesting either. The acoustic version is quite a bit better... the vocals shine a bit more. His voice is amazing but this doesn't show it off amazingly as some previous works do.
While it's clear that the song is influenced by Lovely (also with Khalid), it's still really pretty and their voices work absolutely great together. The production is nice, but nothing to call home about; overall, it's solid and I'm glad to hear a more solemn tone from Khalid given that his last few tracks have felt a little too carefree, where I feel as a listener there's not much to latch onto or care about. (unlike on Free Spirit, which is one of my favorite albums.)
This is a completely fine song from Khalid and PNAU; nothing really groundbreaking, but a nice song nonetheless. That said, the vocals at the end are really nice.
Really nice song from Khalid. I was worried from the snippets that it would feel very TikTok centric and without much depth, and while I can't say it's the deepest song of all time, it's got a really nice groove, and enough lower tones in his voice as well as a nice throwback outro to keep it sounding fresh. If Last Call isn't on the album, then I would say this is the best single of the 4 so far (New Normal, Skyline, Satellite and this). Liked more than expected :)
That said, the line ... read more
