Connor Price - Thrillin

Not loving the hook but it's a banger other than that. Lex brings a nice added flavor.

Some of the best production I've ever heard on a CHH record-- overall great lyricism too-- my biggest issue is some of the Mogli tracks; he's actually great on tracks like Pepe Le Pew but on other ones I can't vibe with his tone. Sometimes a bit derivative but it's not really something that actually bugs me on a big level.

I'm very happy to see a CHH record where I feel like the people involved are actually trying to make really good music (even if not 100% successful), because in my opinion, ... read more

Connor Price - Vroom

The hook is kinda dissonant and not in an appealing/creative way... just doesn't work together great. Connor's fine on here but, unlike Buddy, I find Hoodie really off here.

Connor Price - Riptide

So glad we're back to getting a string of rap-centric bangers from CP. This one has a wonderful beat and some amazing bars: "Can't spell iconic without Con and Nic (!!!)" Really loving these last 3. I think when he was doing more singing-based songs, rapping felt more secondary, and by extension that there was less effort going into those portions. But the last 3 which have been mainly rap have flipped the script back, and I'm super psyched on it.

(Also-- this is a 100 Graham beat! ... read more

Sampha - Lahai

Beautiful album; have enjoyed more on each relisten- aptly described as lush by some of the critics. While in some ways I slightly miss the dynamite tracks like Blood on Me that accompanied Process, this album replaces brashness with beauty, and that I can wholeheartedly appreciate.

Apart from Spirit 2.0, which I feel is pretty much perfect, Jonathan L. Seagull is also a huge standout to me. That retro nostalgic, almost "Charlie Brown Christmas" sound is incredible, but there are so ... read more

I have a hard time believing this is unironic... but either way it has very few redeeming qualities. Bridge isn't terrible.

Connor Price - Ruby

Second solid track in a row and a new era for CP.

Em Beihold - Pedestal
73

Pretty, but not my favorite from Em.

Connor Price - Underdog
83

A mix of a much better beat, paired with some really solid bars, makes this Connor's best track since last year; I think the hook is a little weak but if this were in a playlist w/the Spin The Globe tracks, it would fit right in. (not that artistic growth is a bad thing, but the way his music has progressed recently hasn't connected with me especially well.) I actually have no problem with the underdog-type bars as long as it's not in the past; like some bars earlier this year were like, ... read more

Drake - 8am in Charlotte

It's cool, nice beat vibes and Drake sounds pretty active on it; not the most interesting track ever but a big improvement over the last single.

Justin Bieber - Yummy (Country Remix)
22

OK-- so like, I actually find Justin's verse funny because it's somewhat self aware of its ridiculousness... however, FGL's verse actually takes itself seriously, and it's TERRIBLE. Like Yummy is a mid pop song, but that verse alone is just awful. The rest is like a 50 but it takes my score down that much lol

Steely Dan - Two Against Nature
78

Not their best but IMO underrated on this site. Tracks like Almost Gothic, Cousin Dupree and Gaslighting Abbie are awesome, even without the pep of earlier work.

Connor Price - HOV - Remix
72

Good beat, solid verses; nothing crazy. Parts of Connor's verse remind me of a Justin Bieber verse. Feels like everyone's generally "floating" on the beat, not taking full advantage, but nice vibes.

indie tribe - STILL HOLY

Basically, the song is great. But the feature about a minute 10 in is one of the most aggravating features of the year; just doesn't fit at all. However, the rest of it's a absolute banger.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp a Butterfly
89

This is not my final score as I haven't really relistened to it fully. What I'll say is on first listen, the first half started to lose me a bit and I didn't make it thru before falling asleep (ended around Complexion). However, when I came back to it, I felt like I really got it, loved the rest, and in revisiting the first half, feel like I get that part more too.

Especially listening to it late, I felt very uncomfortable listening to the intro to For Sale, almost nauseous, ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - good kid, m.A.A.d city

GKMC is awesome. Between stunning production, incredible performances (mainly from Kendrick, but great features) and an incredibly gripping, interestingly structured story told with expert lyricism, I absolutely get the hype on this one. Not much more I can say on it that hasn't been said. SAMIDOT is my favorite song of all time by a large margin.

Only note is it’s significantly better as a full listen than a playlist. It can sound a bit out of place with other songs next to it but ... read more

Joji - Nectar

This is pretty awesome-- Joji in his best album to date. So many great moments, both reflective and bangers.

Also y the track ratings averaging 79, but the album is a 71?

Joji - SMITHEREENS
55

I just don't feel like this is remotely Joji trying his hardest. Some great tracks, though.

REHMA - HYPNOTIC

Dope vibes.
